    Maintenance Lead

    Maintenance Lead/Bean Picker (Former Employee)
    Oakdale, CA

ProsThe floor employees are great people to work with

ConsUpper Management has a good ole boy club. Lacking people skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to the upper management is to go back to school and learn how to be good leaders not members of a totalitarian regime.

Poor Decision Making in Ruining a Great Company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsGreat brands that have a lot of potential.
Fantastic R&D and Supply Chain groups that work well together.
Good benefits and flexible work/life balance.

ConsCentralized decision making that is slow, risk averse and generally not as well informed as it believes it is.

Advice to Senior ManagementTruly embrace "Teach & Trust". With every decision having to go up to a Sr. VP or President, you will never be nimble, nor will you have any truly amazing new products. The lack of empowerment results in churn, lost opportunities, frustration, and ideas that had potential for greatness being compromised into boring offerings.

    Slow

    Cost Engineer (Former Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsFor the most part people were friendly, benefits and compensation are very good, and the job was not at all stressful.

ConsJob position was falsely advertised, implied a high level of responsibilities and project management but turned out to be clerical data entry 95% of the time.

Advice to Senior ManagementSave yourself some money and do not hire engineers do to data entry.

    Some good, more bad

    Maintenance Mechanic (Current Employee)
    Hastings, MN

ProsYou get to work a lot of overtime, which is a good thing since they don't pay all that great. You get free pizza every now and then.

ConsVery poorly managed. No prioritization. They will fight with the Union over pennies, but waste thousands because of a refusal to admit they made a bad choice. They devalue and marginalize the workforce on the floor, by not seeking input on issues. Very poor on the job training.

Advice to Senior ManagementTruly start listening to your people, and act on what they say. Be honest, and knock it off with all the corporate jargon (push the needle, change the game, etc. etc.)

Management can't grow Consumer Foods group

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPretty good work life balance, generous vacation time and summer hours. It's actually a pretty good place to learn the CPG industry, but strong performers will get bored quickly of the stable of tired old brands.

ConsSenior leadership needs to be replaced. In my 8 years working here we've cycled through numerous strategies for growth and organizational structures, only to post flat to negative sales YOY in consumer foods. Some of these brands would do well if leadership was willing to invest in them.

Little to no empowerment in decision making below the President level. Decisions typically made by directors in other organizations go to the highest level of the organization for review
    and micro management.

Lots of dysfunction across an unnecessarily complex matrix structure.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell unloved brands, focus the portfolio, and step aside to let someone else run the show. After countless losing seasons, it's time to fire the coach.

Not a best place to work,

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsBenefits are pretty good, however out of pocket high and getting worse. Wellness rules intrusive. Beautiful corporate offices. Nice place to visit.

ConsLarge unrealistic work demands, Too many in the ivory tower in Corporate. Poor orientation. Onboarding is difficult. Facilities need major updating. Need to focus more on plant population.

Demeaning, Warranted claims go unnoticed and not cared about.

    Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Forest Park, GA

    ProsDecent pay and vacation benefits

ConsWork the supervisors to death, Don't treat employee's fair. No work life balance because of cutting positions to the bone. Medical insurance for a company this large should be better

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to employee's

Cut-throat culture-anyone can be the next target slotted for the door

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Omaha, NE

ProsPay & Benefits & ability to move to different positions

ConsForced ranking & use of performance improvement plans to fire people suddenly deemed not performing but had previously done well

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement & hr needs to value every employee & stop the forced ranking. This treatment is the reason CAG will never be a top Omaha company to work for- people no longer come first, but are seen as dispensable cogs.
