Great company that values their employees, but they are losing sight of the values they were founded on

My 6-month experience at Constant Contact has been great.

Customer Training Specialist (Current Employee) Waltham, MA

ProsCulture, smart people, great product, beer cart Friday, free coffee and soda, casual attire, some positions are able to work from home or remote locations. CEO and executive is always walking around office and are all easily approachable even as an intern. Easy to move around company if position you currently hold does not fit you.

ConsCompany is growing fast, which may not seem like a con but worried it may outgrow itself or grow too fast. Senior management is a tight knit group so I can see how it may be hard to advance as a lower level employee. Also, this seems to cause a lot of talent to leave and go to other companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in ourselves as a company and make sure young talent that you bring in doesn't leave after ~5 years.

    Good company, good culture

Direct Sales (Current Employee) Waltham, MA

ProsWith warm leads, this is a sales person's dream! There aren't any cold calls and you get typically people that truly want to hear from you. At times it's hard to get people off the phone. And you're selling a product that you can believe in.

The company culture is great and its a true work hard, play hard atmosphere. They had cool sales contests giving away TV's, iPads, computers, etc. There is great comradary within the sales department and the willingness to openly share best practices. The team managers are knowledgeable and care about you as an individual.

As a growing company Constant Contact was once a great company to work for, then it became a little too corporate, but with a few tweaks it can become great again.

ConsUpper management and operations aren't knowledgeable in how to set realistic, motivating goals. There were some months that the targets were viewed as unreachable which isn't motivating at all. Generally they have good intentions of setting accurate targets but if they get it wrong, they need to own up, and change them quickly.

While call productivity is important, they need to concentrate a tad less on call metrics and more on acquisition.

Advice to Senior ManagementSr management need to get in the trenches and have more face time with the sales staff to understand their challenges. Get less corporate.

Great culture, questionable product and tech management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Waltham, MA

ProsPeople are all very nice and supportive

ConsTechnology and engineering is secondary, which means lots of non-technical people make decisions about product without understanding the impacts on the development process.
Lack of focus means lots of projects of mediocre quality.

Advice to Senior ManagementReplace your non-technical senior-level managers with engineering experts who understand product development. Kill the many, many projects that are not core to the business.
Hire world class designers, and let them design without any interference by upper-level management.

Great environment and great people - work hard and play hard

    Support Analyst (Former Employee)

Prosgreat people to work with, enjoyable environment, management in support is aware and focused on the customer

Conschallenged by the expectations of wall street to keep their focus on what got them where they are. Some growth issues that are being addressed but can see some department still struggling to accept the direction and focus on customer

Advice to Senior Managementstay focused on the goals, trust your managers to do their jobs and follow through

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
