I have been working at Cooper Tire & Rubber full-time

    Pros

Cooper has a pretty laid back midwestern culture. Jeans day every Friday if you donate $2 to charity. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Can't ask for a better work/life balance. Investment in innovation is growing.

    Cons

Management is pretty risk adverse. Located in a pretty small town so can be hard to integrate if you relocate.

I worked at Cooper Tire & Rubber full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Findlay production plant is an excellent place to gain manufacturing experience; the production workers are friendly and part of the steel worker's union. The location offers several advancement opportunities if the candidate is qualified and willing to be challenged with a new job responsibility.

    Cons

Ease of advancement lacks in smaller departments that rely on employee retention to continue delivering needed performance. Performance appraisals occurred yearly, with limited to no feedback throughout the year which made the process difficult for employees to make necessary changes if needed.

    Pros

My coworkers at Cooper want me to stay and see me succeed. The environment is very friendly, and no one is going to talk down to you. Hours are reasonable, as long as you are an early riser, because your shift starts at 7:00am. They off a $500 monthly "hospitality" or "housing" allowance at signing, depending on how long you stay. There are a strong group of leaders that want to develop future workers for Cooper Tire. This job is also great if you work well on your own, seeing that I was never micro-managed. They offer both summer and semester-on-semester-off internships. They are willing to offer this during your current internship. I likely will work for Cooper again.

    Cons

If you accept this job, expect to get dirty some days! Carbon Black is one of the strongest staining, dirtiest, messiest things I've delt with. If you have asthma, you may want to be cautious while going around the plant. Though no chemicals Cooper uses are toxic, I found them irritating to my breathing. This isn't a huge problem because you spend most of your time in the office.

    Advice to Management

Interns come for a learning expirience, but seem to be thrown into the swing of things without knowlege of the leadership heirarchy, process of making tires, or how to use their business systems.

    Pros

they have good job openings, able to get another better pay job very quickly, and the managment seems to care about training, quality of the product, work condtions.

    Cons

Some of the things that arent too good are working on a pay scale percent system. Working 2.5 years to go from 75% to 100% seemed unfair, and now have to work another 3.5 to get Cola. I knew what i was getting into when i got the job so i guess i cant complain. And now the new hires coming in now well never see 100% nor cola will only keep the really good workers away.

    Advice to Management

Put the money back into the real workers, Let everyone have a chance to get cola, get to 100% . I could see if the company wasnt making any money but when you see the ceos, big bosses etc getting raising, getting million dollar bonuses because of profits , its discouraging to know some pay guy is killing himself making peanuts getting the tires made`.
