RN case manager (with >20 years of nursing experience.)

Registered Nurse Case Manager (Current Employee)
    Portland, OR

ProsWork from home; flexible hours; able to take proper vacation days; up-to-date technology; frequent opportunity to use critical thinking and communication skills; ability to talk with providers as partners in care management, and in a professional environment.

ConsMicro-managing, production demands, cost of insurance and deductibles, Work waits (aka minimal coverage for vacations), non-respectful and disrespectful treatment from immediate supervisor and a general lack of demonstrated appreciation for professional employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat professionals with respect, and acknowledge that years of knowledge and information is valued. Respect the professional training that registered nurses have in regard to professional integrity and personal fortitude. Evaluate performance and employee value, from the prospective of big picture, rather than minutia that can often hinder, or even stop creativity.

    Learned a lot

    Billing Specialist (Current Employee)
    Carmel, IN

ProsHired me without experience and I learned a lot and was grateful for that.

ConsThey gave people so undeserving of the job so many chances that it caused problems with great co-workers who did their job.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't praise people that do nothing for the company. It won't help anything.

    Company Motto: Cheap is good.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsA lot of good people who are trying to do a great job in spite of corporate management
    Flexible work hours for some

ConsEven as I write this, Im thinking, if anyone figures out who I am, I'm history--fearful atmosphere.
Poor benefits that cost too much to use
Often feels like higher management doesn't trust or care about employees and local mgmt has no power

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust your employees-especially people who have proven themselves trustworthy
Improve benefits--create a Human Resources Dept instead of outsourcing everything
    Prove you are trustworthy

    Dead End Road

    Data Verification Specialist (Former Employee)
    Acton, MA

ProsOffice management was very flexible and understanding. I was given the opportunity to work from home which allowed for me to juggle my personal and work life adequately.

ConsThere is no room for advancement. I was hired under the premise that, one day, I would be presented with opportunities for advancement, but there truly aren't any.
The pay is very low. The company has a maximum percentage they're allowed to give as raises, and it's an abysmal amount. The pay wouldn't cover basic life necessities if I would have had to work within the office rather than from home.
I didn't partake in the benefits because they weren't worth it. For a company such as this, you would think they would have good benefits. They don't have short- or long-term disability, either. They allow you to accumulate sick/vacation time to compensate for it, but I would have much preferred the option of short-term disability for something like maternity leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe upfront with your employees about advancement opportunities. Don't imagine positions for them to, one day, be promoted to that don't exist.
