I have been working at CorVel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities for advancement. The management are approachable. The office is clean and a fairly lively and pleasant. Workloads are lighter that at other companies, giving individuals a fair work week of 40ish hours, and very fair caseloads. Ex: 150 at Corvel would be 300 at Sedwyck.

    Cons

The benefits packages are horrible, especially for a company that is in the healthcare industry. The IT development is working backwards, every time they try to update a system that is working halfway decent, it gets worse. There is no discussion of improving benefit conditions or acknowledgement of existing IT problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need to work a bit more closely with other departments within our own company. We need to know what each other's jobs consist of, there is almost a civil war present in the office, Bill-Review Vs. Claims

    good environment

I have been working at CorVel

    Pros

good managers, good teams, excellent smart people. great technology, very steady, low turnaround. great environment to thrive in and excel. managers care deeply about the employees. great personal interaction with the managers. I have a really good manager who is very hands on and also a great leader with great personal skills.

    Cons

low personal interactions within the team. minimal talking. no interactions between the team members. it feels like the company does nothing to build the teams. a lot of companies have adopted the agile approach with high interactions between teams and team members. Corvel lags way behind. their entire approach is to get the work done as soon as possible. it can be quite lonely and not very healthy with such minimal interactions between people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

build an office culture where people feel like they interact a lot.

    Pros

Concise job descriptions, good work environment, company promotes from within, there is a focus on the customer, good updates from management about general direction of the company.

    Cons

Training could be better, your job really depends on your supervisor if you get a good supervisor your job is great, otherwise you could be I trouble. No consistency or integrity with bonus plan, systems and technology are lacking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a bonus structure and it should be adhered to.

I have been working at CorVel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company does promote from within and changing from one team to another is possible if the option is given. My immediate manager has an excellent leadership style, promoting both personal and professional development. Our team works well together, with cross-training going on at all levels. There is a good atmosphere for inter-team cooperation. Most of the people in my office are friendly. Every day is a challenge; I am learning almost constantly.

    Cons

The benefits are not consistent with other companies, especially the 401(k) and healthcare options. Quick turn-around on projects are frequently required, making the pace frenetic and somewhat stressful at times. There are multiple naming conventions across the company, making it difficult to communicate exactly what is needed or expected. Environments are always being updated and revised so it's difficult to keep accurate documentation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please provide better benefit options for your employees. Also, more team-building exercises across teams would be beneficial.

I worked at CorVel full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Healthcare and Workers Compensation is a growing field and it was nice to be a part of it. It was actually fairly easy to communicate with people in the different CorVel offices and stay up-to-date on company news.

    Cons

It was always very difficult to get definitive answers from the higher ups. We would ask, "do you want a, b or c?" They would respond, after a few days, "yes." This isn't anything unique to CorVel, but it does happen often.
