I have been working at Corbis full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, small/mid size company provides lots of opportunities to make a big impact and lots of opportunity to learn and have personal growth. My manager gives me autonomy and support to make the decisions I need to make. Excellent work life balance. Fun events like ice cream socials, world cup games played on big screens etc.

    Cons

Compensation is average to above average but there is real value in the work-life balance and work opportunities and benefits that help close that gap

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Corbis full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Bill Gates Company
    Good Salary and Benefits
    Good Work Life Balance
Excellent images and imagery - great for creative people to join the company

    Cons

    High Turnover in the company
No Vision and constantly changing direction
IT executives are very junior, no real world complex system experience - no motivation for smart people to join IT group
Takes too long to do small things
Too many rumors of people and their personal behaviors/relationships.
Execs are hard to find - all on vacation or work from home every other week or travel for vacation or business together

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the creative team add more talent. Listen to them not to sales people.
Bring new strong IT executives with relevant experience. Change or move current IT execs to different role. (see other posts on glassdoor). Ra Ra can only carry you so far.

I have been working at Corbis full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Corbis is filled with fun, creative people. Almost everybody has some type of creative background, and the company mission allows you to apply creativity and make a career out of it. It is incredible to work with the best images in the world, which the company represents. The company pays well and has above-average salary and benefits.

    Cons

Things change a lot because the industry that Corbis is in has gone through a lot of change. It is frustrating to work very hard on a project and then see the company go off into a different direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay patient, allow the great people to do the job, and it will eventually pay off.

    I worked at Corbis

    Pros

Great product -- some of the world's best images
Good compensation (if you make sales targets)
    Decent benefits
Tends to attract creative, interesting people

    Cons

I was in the LA office -- there was some downsizing and the office didn't have the exciting vibe of some of the bigger offices. It felt like it was on the side a bit.
The stock photography industry is in decline. Made it harder to make targets (and money) each year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look for opportunities outside photography.
Don't forget the LA office -- lots of good people there. You are too Seattle-centric there. You need to be more about LA or NY if you want to be a more recognized media company.

    Great summer internship

Former Employee - An Intern in Seattle, WA

    I worked at Corbis

    Pros

I can only reflect on the 3-4 month period I worked at Corbis. Unlike other intern programs, where they try to pile on the work that has been neglected for the past nine months, I was given applicable assignments that not only took the pressure off upper management but also gave me insight into how the Communications/PR division of the company operates.

I want to stress the word applicable. It pleased me to be given things to do that had substantial weight behind it, things that a "FTE" in my same position would do.

The upper management I had contact with seemed very thoughtful and extremely helpful in facilitating potential job opportunities for me down the line. There is a "laid back" attitude with management that made me feel comfortable bringing problems or concerns to their attention.

    Cons

As stated in many other reviews, the company is still in a state of transition. Although there are a lot of exciting developments within the company, they still run very lean. This means larger workloads for people. From what I saw with the departments I worked with directly, the employees work very hard are are vested in what they are doing. It's too bad that they can't ease some of the pressure by hiring more across the board.

The company is also spread out. This can cause a bit of frustrations when trying to get information or answers from individuals. This is more of a personal frustration and doesn't really reflect on Corbis the company.

The high turnover is also a concern. From what i see, Corbis has a hard time holding on to employees. I don't think there is an easy answer as to why this is occurring. I'm sure it has to do with salary demands, industry changes, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would love for the company to focus more on the employee culture and satisfaction, recognize when a department needs more support, and be proactive in supporting their employees.

I have been working at Corbis

    Pros

The product is very interesting and there are a lot of great people working hard every day. The company has made some recent deals (with Splash and AP) that should make it a lot more competitive going forward.

    Cons

There seem to be a lot of shifts in strategy, organization and direction, although the market is changing rapidly so some of this is understandable. Given all the changes, I sometimes struggle to understand where the company is headed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on improvements in the bottom line, and more on the people that are getting you there. Choose a strategy and stick to it for enough time for it to be successful.
