    I worked at Corel full-time

    Pros

    - OK pay and benefits
    - Life/work balance
    - Some very bright and nice people to work with

    Cons

    - Constant layoffs
    - No vision/direction
    - Very short-sighted outsourcing stragtey from new management who has no idea about the the products are

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is easy to look at numbers and make calls on what you can see. It is harder to be couragous and taking-risk to head the company to the future growth. Without a mindset change, the company is going away sooner or later.

    I worked at Corel

    Pros

Above average vacation time (hey it's a Canadian company!)
They try to treat employees with respect (at least in North America)

    Cons

It's a mix of many companies they acquired, plagued by poor management. If you're an innovative person looking for an exciting work, this place is not for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think out of the box, get some innovative leaders, commodity business won't survive! You've lost so many chances already, could have been #1 on mobile multimedia apps.

I worked at Corel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Aged but nice products and good people

    Cons

Riding nice products to death without any (or minimal) investment and basically no support, consumers are left with bugs and other issues no one cares about

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go get a more consumer-friendly strategy: acquiring companies and leeching off their brand value is a great ROI but will ultimately kill the company's reputation

    I worked at Corel

    Pros

Corel has some great products with very affordable prices that compete with the best of them. The every day employees are the best and hardest working you'll ever work with.

    Cons

The company is owned by a private equity firm that goes through layoffs 2-3x/year and trims budgets to levels that hurt everyone and everything involved, the products, the employees and the customers. It hires way too many contract people, denying them job security, benefits and vacation. People with 10+ years tenure have been laid off w/o notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want a successful company, I suggest you invest in both the employees and the products instead of seeing how much sweat you can squeeze out of your increasingly unhappy and discouraged employees.
