I worked at Corner Bakery Cafe full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Some of the co workers were amazing, the guests were awesome.
If you like to be lazy and management not care then this is the place for you to work.

    Cons

Lazy co workers, management doesn't care, understaffed, doesn't matter how much experience you have you will still get 50 cents above minimum, to them that's "competitive".
If someone doesn't show up for a shift be prepared to pick up their slack bc they aren't calling someone else in. False promises. Lack of training, they will put it on the employees to train the newbies and not even pay them extra for training those newbies, especially when it should be a trainer doing that job. That's what trainers get paid to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is do your job. You try to make everyone like you instead of doing your job and improving the store. If you take care of your employees needs, then they will take care of your store, generating more sales. Get some proper training programs. Don't tell employees what they want to hear just to get them off your back. Don't promise something you can't commit to. Don't overload the employees with extra work if someone calls out, either call someone in or have a manager fill that spot like they should do.

    Pros

Good working environment, get to meet interesting people, and always a new challenge waiting to be tackled

    Cons

Hours are terrible, The normal shift is supposed to be 10 hours but most days you average 12-14. It all depends on the management team you have. if one piece falls apart the whole system is out of order.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the Managers and all the hard work they do. Also try and make sure the GM's are follow all policies and not trying to force their own ones on managers.

    Pros

The employee discount was good, better than other restaurants. When there were hours, the pay and tips were decent.

    Cons

Hours get cut with no notice. The General Manager was clearly drowning and took his frustration out on his staff. He would fire people at the drop of a hat. They talk to you about promoting you and never act on it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To better prepare your management and manage labor and scheduling more effectively.

    Pros

Great training program for the first two months. Very intensive.

    Cons

Horrible hours. Shift position is lowest on the totem pole. All nights and weekends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better pay and help those who work there move up instead of hiring from the outside.

    Pros

Steady job, if you have an opening shift you can still have an afternoon open for family and friends. Good food and decent benefits.

    Cons

long days 11+ hours every shift. No quality of life. Upper management (RD and up) don't care about your family or personal life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If people are truly the base of your brand pyramid start acting like it. Start recognizing and rewarding people for their hard work and dedication. Motivating by telling people how bad they are doesn't work.

I worked at Corner Bakery Cafe

    Pros

Honestly, I can only think of a few things on why it was great to work here and those consisted of the few good people that stuck around in that environment with me. My immediate boss was great as well as a few select others.

    Cons

Will work you to death. 50 hours a week. I did nothing else but catch up on sleep when not working. Crazy hectic place. Every employee had to do what in reality two people should be doing. Customers are just so rude. The way the restaurant is set up means you do a lot to get the food out, but you never get tipped. Senior management lost their brains, put on a facade when it came to caring about your "well being". making money was top concern. too bad they didn't know how to make a long term profit. wages were little for how much work you actually did, and I make that statement from management all the way down to the dishwashers. SAD.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Management needs to stop micromanaging and let the Daily Management Staff do their job!
