    Pros

Corning is a good company, which has long history of innovation. Employees are respected. People are nice here.

    Cons

Corning is in a small town in upper state of New York. It is kind of far from big cities.

    Pros

Culture is highly rational, data-driven and innovative. Some of the smartest people I've ever met. Company makes long-term investments in fundamental research, then looks for opportunistic applications.

    Cons

"Build it and they will come" is a challenging business strategy. Remote HQ location leads to inward-focus and some interesting politics, including a culture that is indirect and opaque at times - not unlike a stereotypical Japanese firm.

    Advice to Management

Nurture the next generation of leaders instead of focusing on feeding the egos of the current leadership team. Take more risks on products and people.

    Pros

Great problems and projects, good culture, fair climate, diverse place to work, Great Technology, good training programs, decent benefits

    Cons

Low salary, hard to move up due to stagnant organization, haphazard organization, poor leaders in some places, VERY lean workforce

    Advice to Management

Make priority calls and make timeline reasonable, your people will be happier and do better work.

    Pros

Loved the 5/10/15 etc. year anniversary gift - a bonus of 2 weeks vacation that year. Pushes for breakthrough innovations. Average pay for industry.

    Cons

Was part of smaller, remote organization. Didn't see any senior managers at corporate (Director, VP, etc.) who weren't born and bred Corning employees (25 years + with company) so opportunities for mid-career people transfers (into Corning) will get discouraged.

Good corporate programs for work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Better engagement with remote sites for growth opportunities.

    Pros

The pay is really good, the people there are really good for such a large corperation

    Cons

If you are a contractor there is little chance of you getting full time status so leave when you can

    Pros

Great place. If you have talent, you will succeed. Very friendly culture. You must work very hard though to succeed. If you are willing to learn, share your ideas and will work hard, you are likely to become very successful (assuming you know what you are doing)

    Cons

Sometimes training is all over the place. You are trained in everything and anything but not always in an area that would be beneficial.

    Advice to Management

Allow workers to deepen their existing knowledge.

    Pros

big company with small town feel

    Cons

Big company, promoting growth through change is good, but it can also cause constant insecurity for workers in fear their jobs may disappear any moment.

    Advice to Management

get to know the people who work for you by personal interview, not by what someone else has to say.
