    Detention Officer (Former Employee)
    California City, CA

ProsThe Job it self, good schedules,

Consto many differences between locations. no continuity between locations. (pay, training, management)

Advice to Senior ManagementLeadership needs to be the same mind set. no matter the facility. pay should not be a matter of dollars but cents.

Great Company, with a Few Glitches Along the Way.

    Recruiting Coordinator (Former Employee)
    Nashville, TN

ProsThis is a great company who treats many of its employees like family. Being part of such a large corporation does come with perks sometimes such as company functions, frequently having meals provided by executives and free items such as tee-shirts, pens, and desk accessories.

ConsWith any large corporation, things can change quickly. Many times a year CCA will lose contracts with particular correctional facilities and lay off the entire staff associated with that location. In addition, if you are working within the CCA Corporate Headquarters (or Facility Support Center as it is referred to) be aware if you are not an 'internal' employee. This company uses many contract employees but they do not receive the same treatment or perks of the internal employees or 'family members'

Advice to Senior ManagementGauge and communicate with staff to take a temperature check of how things are going. Many times it seems like management is cold and removed and have an attitude of 'it's just business.' All employees were created equally... Let's make sure they know that! :)

    It's Not What You Know . . .

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Nashville, TN

ProsLongevity and leading position in the industry. Hardworking people who begin with the best intentions but become jaded or just getting by after years of not getting rewarded.

ConsGood ole boys network based on who you know, not what you know. Lots of talk about employee engagement and liking each other for who we all are, but not enough evidence to back up the chatter. Low pay in general. Diminishing benefits.

Let's blame everyone else for our screw ups

    Licensed Practical Nurse (Current Employee)
    Eloy, AZ

ProsIt's a job. At least I can pay my bills.

ConsVery poor programs. Tools necessary for job are outdated and don't work properly.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees better than the inmates.

    Good company, needs common sense.

    Detention Officer (Current Employee)
    Gainesville, GA

ProsGood pay and benefits. Good high level management and good company support network. Very well planned and thought out as a company.

ConsProfessionalism was somewhat lacking at times. There a lot of favoritism, especially on the racial front. Upper management was not engaged with the line staff at all. Lot of uncommon sense.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more proactive with the line staff and do not allow personal recommendations of the supervisory staff to over shadow personal one on one appraisals of line staff, supervisor use the buddy system but their buddy might not be the best choice. (This commentary is not over something that happened to me but to other line staff. Wanting to advance and being worthy of it but supervisors played favorites and the best person did not get the gig. )

It's an OK place to work.

    Correctional Officer (Current Employee)
    Whiteville, TN

Prosgood teamwork, decent pay, new challenges every day, you do not have to have a degree to work here, good benefits

Conslack of communication, very hard to promote, the company would rather hire outsiders than do internal promotions, you have to wear a uniform, you always have to remember that you may not go home the same way you went in or at all, a lot of favoritism

Advice to Senior ManagementCOMMUNICATE!!!! let people who want to promote have the chance before hiring outsiders, give pay raises and bonuses for performance, discipline those who need it, forget the favoritism

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
