    Pros

Countrywide has a very entrepreneurial culture, with a strong build over buy preference. This is great for information technology resources.

    Cons

Department practices are very different, need to make sure that the department you work in matches your style of development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should great one culture and not multiple small empires.

great advancement opportunites and compensation, very collegial workforce, a number of long term employees, pride in the company, growing fast

    Cons

very fast paced, never enough staff to do the work needed, seems as if all communications, programs etc were focused on the LCD (i.e. lowest common denominator) employees, short cubicle walls

I have been working at Countrywide Financial

    Pros

Countrywide is a good place to work because you are working for a large financial firm where many different opportunities for growth are available. This company encourages moving into different positions in various departments throughout your career at the company. Having this experience in different fields make an individual more valuable, as you acquire many different skillsets, which always looks good on a resume. You are able to achieve this all while staying under the umbrella of Countrywide and maintaining job stability.

    Cons

Countrywide can be an extremely disorganized organization. One of the favorite sayings is that if you don't understand a policy or procedure and ask 10 different people, you will get 10 different answers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To treat everybody fairly and equally.

I have been working at Countrywide Financial

    Pros

The company had very good CD and MMA rates which made it easier to hit my goals. The work environment is nice and I don’t have a manager over my shoulder constituently. Overall it is a great company to work for.

    Cons

I would say there are only a few downsides to the company and the way the offices are set up. With there only being 1-2 employees in each office getting time off can be a little difficult some times. District manager was not educated at all in what I did on a day to day basis and didn't really provide any help in most situations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time learning what your employees are doing day to day instead of just looking at the bottom line

    I worked at Countrywide Financial

    Pros

The company offered a brand name to be associated to. The mere mention of who you work for opened doors with prospective clients and business partners. The Countrywide University program was a great introduction into the mortgage banking industry for a recent college grad. It allowed you to rotate across the vast divisions of the company and get a feel for which one suited you best. Of course the right fit depended upon an opening but in most cases the participants I knew got in to the department they hoped for. Opportunity seemed plentiful and the future seemed bright for most.

    Cons

At times the when expections were met, the support lacked to fulfill the goals attained.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to seize opportunities when they present themselves as they have done so in the past.

    I worked at Countrywide Financial

    Pros

The best reason to work for Countrywide is that it is now a part of Bank of America. It is a great place to learn, and all of the people who work there now seem like genuine and intelligent people. At the lower level, they are trying to hire college talent in order to promote from within because they had trouble hiring executives externally in the past. The pay, for interns, is excellent. The perks are also spectacular, including free housing at an apartment complex fully furnished with a pool. You also get a free rental car for the duration.

    Cons

The company has been and may still be in disarray. The company hiring and firing procedures is still unclear, as Bank of America H R has not fully decided how they are going to integrate the two processes. Thus, job security is still very low, and there will probably be more lay offs in the future. Also, because the company is so big, it may be difficult to get promoted from within quickly. It could take twenty years to rise to the top and, if you are willing, it could be a great place to work. Good luck with this situation.

    Pros

Still the most aggressive mortgage lender. Has many products and is in the process of adding some of the B of A specialty products

    Cons

Recently the amount of bad press they received as part of the mortgage melt down. Overall they still have great brand recognition. They hold many A paper mortgages. The subprime mortgages are a small percentage of their overall portfolio.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None, they have handled the merger with Bank of America very well. They kept everyone informed of the process of merging two large entities. B of A is retaining many of the upper management team from Countrywide. B of A is a bank and Countrywide was the worlds largest mortgage company that concentrated on doing one thing...turning a loan application into a closed loan as quickly as possible.
