    Pros

Free lunches, beverages, lots of team building activities. Awesome close-knit coworkers, great technology. Excellent pay. Easy to get promoted if you put in the time. Great mentorship by non-management co-workers.

    Cons

Constant change in management, lots of turnover. Change in Operations middle management was a downfall because all the good managers leave. Going public caused lots of cuts to staff. They will continue to move staff to Ohio & eventually overseas because salaries are lower there which helps the bottom line but not good if you want to stay in Silicon Valley.

    Advice to Management

Have some consistency in middle management and the turnover will lessen.

    Pros

Has some very good engineers, managers around. Has good work life balance. Free food is decent enough.

    Cons

very slow to get things done due to bad management in some departments. constant restructuring and down sizing doesn't help with job security.

    Advice to Management

do not restructure every 6 months, retain good talent by giving better salary hikes and fire managers who are blockers for getting things done

Well Positioned Company in High Growth Internet Business with Unproven yet Arrogant Management Team

    Pros

    - Extremely well-positioned in a burgeoning industry (digital coupons)
    - High-likelihood of success in the public market. IPO is imminent within 2 years or less
    - Easy workload (i.e., low expectations from business)
    - Lots of free food & drinks, including daily catered lunches
    - Company sponsored "employee bonding" events (poker tournaments, Halloween contests, etc.)
    - Awesome company luxury box at SF Giants games (best box in the stadium). Company regularly makes tickets available to the employees, including World Series games!
    - Pets are allowed in the office
    - Excellent employee-referral program

    Cons

    - Unproven, inexperienced and arrogant management team (in some, not all, departments)
    - Management team not experienced in how to run an Internet, e-Commerce company
    - Most of the leaders in the company are from the old, traditional coupon business.
    - Company culture is forced. No "team spirit". Everyone is out for themselves, including most managers
    - Decisions are unilaterally made from the top down
    - Innovation and risk-taking are not encouraged
    - No employee training or career development plans
    - No transparency in how promotions/employee evaluations are made
    - Very uninspiring office space...at least in main building...(think Office Space, only without all the glamour)

    Advice to Management

Top management needs to listen more to the people that they hired from other, successful Internet eCommerce companies. Certain departmental VP's are not qualified to run an Internet-based company. They came from the old, coupon business and they think this is the same business, just a different delivery platform. It's not. Also, the management here rewards loyalty and subservience instead of innovation, risk-taking and new ways of thinking. There's a high-level of arrogance with the exisiting management team since they've been successful to date. However, I think that much of their success has been due to being in the right space at the right time, rather than their management skills. There is an "old boys" network amongst the top managers that's hard to break through. They only trust those that have been through the "dark" days with them. They fall into the trap that things are going well, so they must be doing the right things. However, things could be much better than they currently are. When the competition heats up, that's when they'll realize that they're not qualified for these lofty positions...but by then it will be too late.

    Pros

Great location, flexibility in schedule, free lunch and snacks daily, generally nice people.

    Cons

Work hard to get no where. Even if you're doing a great job, you'll get overlooked due to tenure and politics. Not a good motivation to work harder.

No communication between departments, making for a jumbled mess of products that may or may not be necessary or helpful to the company. Lot's of wasted talent and money in this company.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes to the employees that are eager and willing to go above and beyond without being asked. They will be your money makers. If not, you'll lose all your good talent to your competition.

    Pros

Even after 14 years of being in business, it's still has some start-up qualities
    - Casual dress
    - Plenty of free food that's pretty good
    - People are reasonably smart and friendly
    - Some latitude to be innovative

    Cons

    - Unnecessarily political atmosphere with lots of turf wars and siloed teams
    - Management often seems more focused on short-term targets than long-term strategy
    - High attrition in some areas
    - Lots of old-school systems and processes needing modernization, although they're working hard to update things

    Advice to Management

Do whatever is necessary to get people feeling like they're all on one team, cut some of the red tape and CYAing that is hampering innovation, and keep the troops more focused on building a great company rather than hitting every short-term goal.
