    Pros

This company still has the family feel to it, as it is still family owned. I loved the people I worked with, the amount of support on the bottom level was amazing.

    Cons

There was trouble with consistancy at my store, the managers had favorites, openly. The general managers had issues with performing to standards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe you can better connect with your employees if you;re not trying to sell this country fresh idea. If you honestly understand it, you will understand your employees and customers better.

    Pros

great training and the management is great to work with!!

    Cons

Menu is quite extensive and hard to work with in a short amount of time, need to get used to menu and operating system even if you are experienced already.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open communication is a must and make sure all employees are trained well before putting them on the floor.

    Pros

Worked around my school schedule while in college, Got a raise every time I passed a par test, one week paid vacation after working there a year, two weeks after working there 3 years.

    Cons

Management doesn't always take care of issues, lack of teamwork

Former Employee - Retail District Manager

    Pros

Many opportunities for self development. Promotes from within. Compensation is competitive. Opportunity to meet and work with great people. Formed many long-term friendships here.

    Cons

No real work/life balance. No paid holidays. Lost their values of empowering and valuing people - only concern now is financial results and continued growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Return to the original philosophy of valuing people and what they can contribute to your business. Stop trying to be something for everyone and just be true to the brand!

    Working in a "Country-Fresh" environment

Former Employee - Server/Expo in Denton, TX

    Pros

Cracker Barrel has an exceptional training program for any position of the store, whether it be in retail or restaurant. The longer you stay there, the more you learn about the company and earn a pay raise as well. Very teamwork oriented.

    Cons

VERY corporate structured. You have to get along with the scheduling managers in order to receive ideal shifts. Your uniform has to be perfect and professional, otherwise you get sent home.

Current Employee - Retail Associate in Alcoa, TN

    Pros

I work in retail. They are awesome with working around my school hours. Have a great training system. There's a wholesome family atmosphere, with all employees respecting each other and authority.

    Cons

Almost impossible to get more than 21 hours per week in retail. After you reach Par 4 raises are next to nothing. One can advance to a trainer or eventually try to get into internship management program but other than that the pay is low with not much upgrade.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is AWESOME!!!!! Cracker Barrel knows what its doing in that arena.

    Pros

i started out as a hostess when i was 17. Lots of opportunities to move up. It paid my bills for a long time as an hourly. As a manager it is demanding. The development plan for managers is great. There are quarterly bonuses, 401k, stock options, and health benefits. pay is good.
I was an hourly for 9yrs and a little over 2yrs as a manager

    Cons

Great bosses are hard to come by. Long long hours. Very hard to balance life and work.
