I have been working at Cracker Barrel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They have a great upward mobility structure. You can start low and work your way up in the company. Always opportunities to increase your pay by either cross-training to another position or keeping up with training in current position

    Cons

You will work hard, it is a restaurant. With all the food that ends up going to waste, there should be a bigger discount on meals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of attracting hard workers. Nobody ever says "I want to work at Cracker Barrel when I grow up". Do more things to separate yourselves from other restaurants. I enjoyed my experience working there

I worked at Cracker Barrel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

able to move up, can transfer with ease, routine

    Cons

No breaks or sitting even if it was the law, extremely hard work heavy plates, awful uniform, unhealthy food, poor tippers, difficult environment to work in

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am sure they are doing well since it's a server job. They try but money is always more important than a workers "feelings" - Sometimes you just have to take a job. They know how bad it is. Management has no say really either

I have been working at Cracker Barrel part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company values its employees. Positive environment. Better than standard employee benefits. Flexible scheduling. Three pay raises in first year.

    Cons

Only part-time. Few hours. Start minimum wage. Training is only adequate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training should be a focus with emphasis on high level trainers and enough time to thoroughly work through the material with the trainee and review. Management should play a larger role in training by working alongside the trainer to maintain a high level of execution. Also, there should be great effort afforded toward improving restaurant and retail parternership on ALL levels. Communication is lacking and the problem is that managers do not care about their retail/restaurant partner's success.

I worked at Cracker Barrel part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great customers very friendly, and I also made alot of friends there.

    Cons

Too strict, Couldn't paint my nails, wear my hair down(even though I was a cashier) No piercings even if you have a clear retainer. I felt like I was in russia being bossed around so much they made it no fun working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so uptight, this isnt the old ages. People have tattoos and piercings just dont allow alot of them. I dont see what the big deal was with painted nails, especially when not even handling food.

I have been working at Cracker Barrel part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Working at 642 in Columbia, SC is wonderful. Employees are treated as well as the guests. Sandy, the Retail Manager is outstanding. She treats her employees like family. Her encouragement makes me want to be the best I can be. The training is the best. Everyone helps everyone else succeed. My coworkers are very, very, helpful to me.

    Cons

    Can't think of any cons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great job of complimenting your employees. That in turn makes the employee want to succeed.

    Cons

very fast pace ,if everyone doesn't work together as a team, you will not be successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

innovative ways to improve turn around numbers,(percentage increase over l/y ) great way to see where you need to make adjustments so you can meet your financial goal. Employee moral governed by a program called par, were the employee's can get pay increases by taking courses to improve there skill levels, which in return you get more productivity.

Former Employee - PAR III Server in Joliet, IL

I worked at Cracker Barrel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule, always an item of the day to promote to talk about to customers. Lots of regulars came in. Employee discount.

    Cons

Due to the fact that much of the food took a long time to prepare (meatloaf, chicken, etc) items would get 86ed often. Sometimes managers would have trouble with making schedules because they took turns making the schedules. I received two phone calls while on a family road trip out of state on vacation time I requested off months in advance. I wasn't on the schedule for a reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't talk down to your employees.

I have been working at Cracker Barrel

    Pros

As a server, I make great money. Shifts are mostly fun and very fast paced. The managers at the Flat Rock, NC store are generally very flexible with scheduling. I have worked here through high school and college and was always able to come back whenever I needed to.

    Cons

As with any restaurant, holidays are very difficult to have off. I have been with the company for almost 7 years and have tried very hard to move up with the company and it has proven to be close to impossible - even with tons of experience and a college degree.
