I have been working at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

9/80 work schedule. Fellow employees work hard and are fun to work with.

    Cons

Under staffed. Upper management is constantly changing and the president insults those below him. Bad decisions have created chaos and management doesn't take credit for causing poor moral. Unqualified personnel are raised to high levels and management listens to idiotic advice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build moral and stop blaming workers for your bad choices.

I have been working at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

When crane first purchased the company from Signal Technology things looked great until the upper management started to reorganize how things ran to fall under the "Crane way" of thinking. as time went on thing as steadily getting worse and now they are closing facilities and laying off people. the funny thing is that the location they are moving our product lines to doesn't want the work and are refusing to cooperate.

    Cons

favoritism is king in this place if the management likes you things will go well in your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your employees and stop thinking you know how to run an electronic company, maybe you should go back to making toilets instead.

I have been working at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nothing positive of a company that has no identity. Two different companies acquired to make up the Crane Burbank organization, and neither care about the actual Crane Company. The two different entities continually belittle each other to the detriment of the overall organization.

    Cons

Poor leadership at the top. They beat down the middle level managers and supervisors, and it's expected that the work force to work 6 days a week at a minimum of 10 hours a day. You make an honest mistake and your job is threatened. While leadership and clerical staff enjoys the holidays off, the assembly and direct support teams are forced to work to reach quota's.

I worked at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The Elyria, Ohio site has some great people working there. Flexibility in working hours is allowed to the extent that it will not effect customer deliverables.

    Cons

The management team is wrapped up in charts and graphs with no value put on workers. Management has eliminated all 20+ year experienced employees in an effort to reduce operating costs. All work that can be digitized is being out sourced to over seas company s. Many manufactured parts are being out-sourced also. Most managers are looking for "yes-men" to staff their departments and they will eliminate employees that disagree with their ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put the value back into your workers rather than your charts and graphs. Just "look at" what can be accomplished by good employees in this country rather than out-sourcing.

Former Employee - Comppany In General in Lynnwood, WA

I worked at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Most of the people that "work" there are great people.
Good location right off the freeway and close to bus routes.

    Cons

Poor opinionated management and HR staff. HR = higher-up relations definitely not hard-workers relations.
Management lays people off who do not deserve to be laid off. Do not have just cause.
FYI, some those managers have since left the company themselves! (Is actually a Pros)
Work people to near death and to the point of wanting to and seeking other companies to work for.
Have no regard for tenure and long time dedication to the company.
    No to poor wage increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real! Focus on problems, not people. HR do not just believe what a biased manager has to say, look at facts and see what co-workers have to say about someone before allowing a biased manager to let someone good go. Work on HUMAN RELATIONS and facts and not biased opinions.

I worked at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    It was a short commute.

    Cons

Too many to share. Office politics, lousy supervisors, lean to the starvation side. Company didn't care about the employees only the bottom dollar. Vividly remember one company meeting in which the upper management stated we had a record growth year but no raises would be given! It was like don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. Mass exodus of quality workers. Miserable place to work with nasty people in my department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your antiquated close-minded, old school ideas and treat your employees like you care (even if you don't fake it) instead of like a bunch of chained monkeys.

    Pros

Benefits are average, but they appear to changing.

    Cons

An organization completely devoid of leadership and management talent and common sense. It's a very domineering and oppressive management culture that has places no value on the individual or their ability to contribute. A work life balance is neither promoted or attainable in this organization. Processes and metrics are the end here, not the means to it. The more metrics and processes the better, regardless of their value or usefulness to the business or what truly does matter. Metrics and pursuit of the dollar are all that matters here, nothing else. The leadership team leaves much to be desired and only holds others accountable for performance gaps, not themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A new management team is required.

Crane Redmond - A great place to be FROM

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Redmond, WA
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Redmond, WA

I have been working at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

9/80 shift. However, the fact that almost everyone agrees this is a good thing will probably mean it will be taken away.

    Cons

It was eye-opening to scan these review and see that so many of the problems at Redmond are occurring at every location, especially quality problems and Engineering turnover and morale issues. Reviews from FWB and Merrimack are identical to Chandler and Lynnwood. Specifically at Redmond:
    * Every department is overworked/underpaid. The brain drain from people leaving has had a tremendous negative impact, extremely difficult to get anything done. Morale is terrible. HR is a joke.
*Pay raises are either nothing or limited to 2% which is less than increases in employee contributions to medical/dental. Crane recently cut longevity rewards to next to nothing, which is in line with Corporate's attitudes towards employee retention and how they value employees in general, which is not at all. No value is placed on loyalty, job knowledge, tribal knowledge, or historical knowledge of customers or products.
*Mid-management is so overworked and stressed, they spend most of their time trying to keep their heads above water and writing reports no one will read - and keeping their job - so development or feedback for their people is non-existent.
And, along with everyone else, seriously, if I see that ridiculous, hypocritical RA Crane slide one more time I'll scream.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bob Tavares is completely worthless but manages to make everyone's life hell by jumping into stuff he SHOULD know but doesn't - and ignoring the issues that are killing the company. All he seems to care about is décor. Really, Bob, my plant sticking up above the height of my cube wall is THE issue you need to resolve today?
Return our names to real names - the ones customers actually recognize. We spend hours every week re-directing engineers and customers - and even other Crane employees - to the correct site.
No upward flow of ideas - no one with a brain trusts the "anonymous" board we're supposed to be able to write on.
Crane is a perfect example of what is wrong with business in America. Crane is the same as Bain Capital - purely in it for the money. Why they keep buying great engineering companies and then gutting the quality and engineering departments that made us great is beyond me.

Senior Management, including those in Redmond, make commitments to the customers and tell them they are all equally important..... this is not the case.... the company reacts to those who yell the loudest..... There is no Human in the HR department..... Mid-level Management turnover is quite high....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
