A company that is struggling in difficult times

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)
    Lynnwood, WA

ProsCrane A&E supplies niche electronics to both commercial and defense customers. Most company workers have been there for quite a while which suggests that they are happy. Crane products are of good quality and do not depend on breakout technologies to compete.

ConsThe Crane management culture appears to be changing (more demanding) as their senior leadership is replaced and their BOD demands higher profit margins. The friendly atmosphere that was once enjoyed is now more stressful and less secure. Some good people are leaving and some are being asked to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementCrane needs to think more like their customers and realize that their inward looking perspective is hurting their business approach

    Engineering (Current Employee)
    Lynnwood, WA

ProsGood location if you live south of Lynnwood. Relaxed atmosphere. Good place to work if you want to contribute your specified share, then go home. They do allow "work from home" for Engineers and those who are tied to PC's all day.

ConsEasy to get stuck in one role. No professional development budget to stay current in field. New Engineers have no incentive to remain beyond a few years at most. Little possibility of affecting a positive change in methods, tools, or ideology. Noisy work environment makes it difficult to get any serious work accomplished (thankful for work-from-home policy).

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to your Engineers, Managers, and Technicians in person. There is currently no reasonable dialogue between employees that are new and/or eager to engage in new challenges.

    New president show's great hope

    Administration (Current Employee)
    Lynnwood, WA

ProsNew president shows hope for the companies future, He says the right things. Amazingly high profit for Aerospace.

BTW, the president of Crane Aerospace and Electronics is NOT Bob Tavaris, it's Brendan

ConsMost of the perc's for working at Crane Aerospace are gone. there is no stock options, bonus plan, the retirement plan has been cut nearly in half, turnover is very high. Especially in Burbank, the facility is an old army barrack. Horrible facility. We had record sales the last couple of years, still the merit pool was 1%.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend the money, fix the aging buildings, replace the old DOS based test equipment, etc. Focus on employee retention.

ProsOff Fridays and PTO time provided. Engineering team good to work with.

ConsContinually high expectations from management with no signs of slowing down.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLeft our division alone. We were not micro-managed

ConsLeft our division alone. When we needed help it was not available.

    It's a place to collect a paycheck

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMost of the people are very nice and the pay is decent

ConsManagement like a lot of corporate America only care about themselves and not the people who make them look good. The put on a wage delay or possible freeze this year, but not before bonuses where given to management.

Change for the better but still plenty of chaos

    Senior Electrical Engineer (Current Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsEvery other Friday off. People are nice.

ConsTurnover is incredibly high. 4 Engineering Managers in 2012! Compensation is getting better but the salaries are lower than market. Salaries are determined by corporate and handcuffs the local office.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere needs to be communication within leadership and set some structure so that there is a system of accountability.
