Good company to work for but currently a challenging environment

Vice President (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Credit Suisse full-time for more than 3 years

ProsA very good company to work for. They have very strong sense of community and allow the employees to participate in many diverse philanthropic events.

ConsCurrently a very challenging environment to work in. There is tremendous change happening at the moment as many business functions are being reduced or shipped overseas to lower cost locations.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement may want to consider tenure options...several individuals were the same role for far too long.

Big corporation with a lot of opportunities

Project Manager IT (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Credit Suisse full-time for more than 10 years

ProsAcceptable work-life balance, decent opportunities for training and career growth for people out of school. Flexible remote working arrangements are allowed. Benefits are in line with other big investment banks. Supportive of employees post-graduate plans.

ConsAnnual budgets fluctuate and projects can be canned mid-way depending on ever changing business needs.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease team building exercises and activities.

High turnover - standard technology. Over promise and under deliver

Trader (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Credit Suisse full-time for more than a year

ProsThey want to grow, and are willing to pay decently for your 1st year

ConsThey have very little patience- one down year and you are out. They also have very high aspirations, but when things get tough, they just bail. I saw this multiple times.

Advice to Senior ManagementVery little communication between the higher ups and the mid level producers. This lack of a human touch, while it should not be necessary, actually is. Traders are people too, and they perform better when they don't think you are scheming behind their back to replace them.

All trader both make and lose money. When you are making at CS, its all good. When you are losing, they seem to make no effort to help you get back on track...and the environment becomes poisonous. There seemed to be no effort to help the mid to senior level traders improve...everybody seemed to be on their own. While that might be a way to eventually find good traders....it is possible to help your traders become better...but you have got to make the effort..and CS did not.

Great company to work for

Analyst (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Credit Suisse full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe best part of working for CS is the culture. The people are very friendly, helpful, and easy to get along with

ConsThe company is global, so that means having to cater to various different time zones in order to establish a line of communication

Best job I ever had

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time for more than 5 years

ProsOutstanding Benefits Package and well paying

ConsOngoing layoffs and constant restructering

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't spend alot of time and money training your staff, getting them up to speed and then do it all over with layoffs, over and over.

Great name and corporate benefits for junior level staff

Investment Banking Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time for more than a year

ProsGood place to be for a two year analyst program. You take on a lot of responsibility at a junior level and always work one level above your title.

ConsLegacy policies from investment banking glory days can create negative culture in the office. Not well staffed at the middle level. Compensation is average, but tends to be lower than other bulge brackets and does not move with positive overall company performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementRetention is key at every level.

Prosgood benefits and work life balance

Conswork is not very challenging and too many reorgs

Advice to Senior Managementkeep doing what you are doing, hiding American assets in Zurich so that rich people don't have to pay taxes. That's a great business plan!
