Good company. LIttle opportunity for advancement...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPay is good and the onsite fitness center (free to employees, spouse and children over 16) is a great benefit. The dress is casual and the product is at the bleeding edge for it's industry...

ConsAnnual raises are insulting and there is little opportunity for advancement...

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to value the talent you have within the company or you will continue to lose them...

Cree, a good company that doesn't understand work/life balance

IS Senior Programmer/Analyst (Former Employee) Durham, NC

ProsThe retention rate is good. Never a dull day. The work week flies.

ConsLong hours are expected. Communication is poor. Politics as usual.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is life outside of work.

    Borderline

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCutting edge, not boring or dull. The few leaders that are any good, are really great people.

ConsNo work, family balance. Short-sighted. Not as "smart" and they think. Very few leaders are any good.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally live the company values, which are not. Politics will be crushed? I don't think so. Also, hold upper folks to the same standards as the techs. Some of those upper folks are "allowed" to act and do under different standards that the lower folks and not perform, why?

    It's not your company.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSome of the best reasons to work at Cree consist of interesting technology that may give you the opportunity to feel worthwhile.

ConsPoor pay, ungrateful leadership, classic abuse of H1B program, culture of disrespect, expectations of culture/compensation improvements in the future are never met. You are a throw away to be never advanced until you quit and are replaced with the next desperate young preferably visa dependent soul.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake it all with you.

    A job

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe benefits were somewhat good, they were really good when I started in 1999, advanced fairly well but that was only because of my manager at the time.

ConsIt's a hard place to work you either make it or you don't. Not all personalities will succeed at Cree. It's Cree first & the rest of your life 3'rd or 4'trh on the list.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget about the sacrifices of the many that helped put the company were it is today

Great Industry and Good Jobs in Certain Areas

Manufacturing Maintenance Technician II (Former Employee) Durham, NC

ProsPay, Benefits, Stock Purchase Plan, Gym

ConsSome jobs are good some are always getting the short end. If you work in management or outside the "fab" life is good. Expect random double mandatory OT. Work hours are manipulated to be 42 hrs per week when in reality its 48 and 36. If you work 7pm-7am shift and are young, you will be there forever. R&D and Maintenance will work holidays when production is down.

Advice to Senior ManagementStand by what you say. Implement more LSS methodology the fab is extremely inefficient. Operators need better training. Safety procedures need to be followed more closely.

I have learned to deal with a variety of people in different environments and situations while working at CREE.

Semiconductor Production Worker IV (Current Employee) Durham, NC

ProsCREE is a stable company to work for and has grown consistently over the last few years that I have been here.

ConsThere is very little opportunity for growth, outside job seekers are hired and promoted rather than the company advancing those who have put in their time at the company. CREE has a history of not converting temp employees to full time staff for up to a 2 year time period. CREE is not (nor do I foresee it to be) a family oriented company.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be a wonderful thing to incorporate the true values that are written about CREE to be followed at CREE. It would be nice for the dictators of the rules and regulations to come and see what we work with and how we hold things together then maybe you can better judge how to better run your facilities. In other words don't tell us show us.
