I have been working at Cree full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, nice facility and benefits are OK. They start the day you start which is not the norm but nice.

    Cons

Long hours are expected, not much of a home life. No communication top down and that makes it hard to get anything done. My psychic network isn't always working. The stock holders matter more than the people or even the product. It's all about the dollar, which makes for a very low employee morale. Training is almost non exisistant, so job duties are not clearly defined. It's a mans world at Cree, women don't have the same advancement opportunities in all fields of operation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People matter, the more you run down your employees the lower morale gets. Employees are leaving daily so it makes it hard to get a workforce that can actually make the product. Communicate, communicate, communicate, what can it hurt? Give clearly defined job duties and instructions, nobody likes to work only to CYA. It's a hard place to work, it doesn't have to be.

I worked at Cree full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great worker level of people. Technology leader. In the position to make a difference.

    Cons

Hi-tech business, with old tech programs, policies. Difficult to manage work-family balance. Empowerment is not a value the organization supports. More command and control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The belief that completing a company questionnaire, sitting in 4-5 interviews, having 1 lunch and then maybe 1 dinner can result in the hiring of a rock-star, in lieu of taking a "bleeding blue" 10+ year hi potential employee, developing them and giving them a chance to succeed or fail is misguided at best, disappointing at worst. Making an "investment" in these employees would pay for itself.

I worked at Cree full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great products, benefits, quarterly and annual bonus (nonexempt) quarterly bonus and annual options (exempt) if internal numbers are met.

    Cons

Employees mistreated by supervisors, managers and directors, moral is now at an all-time low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is directed to senior management:

    - the company values are stated the same but they are not a practice by certain people in different business units including HR.

    - Validate resumes to make sure that people don't lie on them and if they do termination should be followed as company policy states.

    - The HR unit should support management but should not let management railroad and or retaliate on employees when employees bring things to HRs attention about management.

    - If annual internal numbers are met then grant all options to exempt employees not partial options, these are not a part of raises, they are issued instead of annual bonus.

I have been working at Cree full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is good and the onsite fitness center (free to employees, spouse and children over 16) is a great benefit. The dress is casual and the product is at the bleeding edge for it's industry...

    Cons

Annual raises are insulting and there is little opportunity for advancement...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to value the talent you have within the company or you will continue to lose them...

I have been working at Cree full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Cutting edge, not boring or dull. The few leaders that are any good, are really great people.

    Cons

No work, family balance. Short-sighted. Not as "smart" and they think. Very few leaders are any good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really live the company values, which are not. Politics will be crushed? I don't think so. Also, hold upper folks to the same standards as the techs. Some of those upper folks are "allowed" to act and do under different standards that the lower folks and not perform, why?

I worked at Cree full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some of the best reasons to work at Cree consist of interesting technology that may give you the opportunity to feel worthwhile.

    Cons

Poor pay, ungrateful leadership, classic abuse of H1B program, culture of disrespect, expectations of culture/compensation improvements in the future are never met. You are a throw away to be never advanced until you quit and are replaced with the next desperate young preferably visa dependent soul.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take it all with you.

I worked at Cree full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits were somewhat good, they were really good when I started in 1999, advanced fairly well but that was only because of my manager at the time.

    Cons

It's a hard place to work you either make it or you don't. Not all personalities will succeed at Cree. It's Cree first & the rest of your life 3'rd or 4'trh on the list.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget about the sacrifices of the many that helped put the company were it is today
