I worked at Creighton University (More than a year)

    Pros

covers tuition, and 70% of living costs

    Cons

The claim that the workload is no more than 30 hours is wrong.

  2. Genuinely sincere educators who help students achieve success

    Pros

A revered history of graduating remarkably successful students in a wide variety of fields. Keeps a finger on the pulse of educational innovation.

    Cons

Salaries for support staff do not keep pace with median salaries in the area.

    Advice to Management

Needs more definition of responsibility for leadership and better oversight, some barely do any work. Also new procedures need to be pre-tested before designating to support staff.

  3. Research Assistant

I worked at Creighton University full-time

    Pros

Really enjoyed the culture of inclusiveness and collaboration. Research being conducted can be very meaningful. Most of the faculty are helpful and friendly.

    Cons

At times it can feel like there is a lack of direction in the work. Attitudes can be a little too laid-back. Not the best pay for the amount of work that we do.

    Advice to Management

Primary investigators should clearly communicate what is expected of their researchers and talk with them more about the motivations for doing this type of research.

    Pros

Excellent sense of community. Fantastic time off during the holidays. Even if you are not an alum, student or even catholic, you can believe in the Creighton spirit.

    Cons

difficult to move "up" and often titles are handed out to pacify an employee. Titles that mean very little in terms of a raise or upward movement to management.

    Advice to Management

Value the people that make you look good. If you find yourself countering to keep an employee who is leaving, it is too late.

    Pros

Like I said, the best people, plus the values, the work ethic and the sheer student friendliness of the school

    Cons

Can be too laid back sometimes

    Advice to Management

Expansion, expansion, the more programs that Creighton has, the better it would be for everyone who wishes to pursue higher education

    Pros

The people you work with are great. They are like family. Creighton does a lot for the employees with professional development opportunities, lunches, and opportunities to volunteer for causes. Great flexibility for work-life balance. The cost of insurance is less than others that I have had or seen.

    Cons

This is education - do not expect to make a lot of money. If you want to park in the parking lots, you have to pay for parking. Only get paid once a month. It takes forever (it seems like) for change to happen within the organization. Silos between divisions which is frustrating to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Deal with the silos between divisions. Explain why you make the decisions you make. You will gain more support if you do. The staff - faculty division is getting larger. The staff support and often times do the work of faculty and upper management. Reward them for it.

  10. Great school student job

    Pros

Easy on campus access. Flexible hours for a student schedule. Great people. interact with prospective students from all over the country.

    Cons

Many students do not take their work study program seriously.

    Pros

Good coworkers. Good benefits, especially health care and tuition remission for self and family members. Able to take classes for a nominal fee. Able to attend Mass, bible study, and spiritual direction. Opportunities for employee/career development.

    Cons

Salaries are a bit lower than other places. Workplace satisfaction varies depending on department, school, etc.

    Advice to Management

Keep communicating with employees; they are interested in what is going on in the institution, and prefer to find out from management rather than the news media.
