    Pros

It is a great company. Great opportunities, flexible hours and Very diverse. The company strives to develop every individual. It pays well in Indiana.

    Cons

It is based in Columbus which is a very small town.
An individual will get more responsibilities before getting a compensation.
    Yearly pay increase is small.

I have been working at Cummins full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

People are nice and friendly. Politics is minimal at mid-level. If you are in Columbus, you have access to the leaders.

    Cons

IT Function is undergoing constant restructuring. The company was focused on Business Analysts before and now is looking for more technical capabilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need better career opportunities for the employees in functions outside Technical.

    Pros

Good benefits package, nice bonus program, lots of history, opportunity for very long term employment

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Cummins full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My experience is in the HQ in Indiana
-Work life balance is good- Most people stick to the 8-5 schedule.
-Many opportunities to move internally and find new opportunities
-Stable, old-school patriarchal company that looks out for its workers
-Market dominant position in key segments to provide financial security

    Cons

    - A lot of "dead weight" at the company who are just collecting a paycheck
    - Locations in rural areas throughout the world that make it difficult to recruit and retain top talent
    - Many "lifers" at the company stifle innovation
    - Six sigma often misused

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs to light a fire under the feet of its employees. There is too much complacency. Sooner or later market competitors will catch up, and I'm not sure the company will be nimble enough to respond.

I have been working at Cummins full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Everyone in my department is friendly, easy to work with, and you can tell they love their job for the most part. There are lots of team building and community days/events that are paid and very enjoyable. Laptops/network are far superior to any large corporation I've worked for including GE, ACOE, and USEC so less frustration. Union is easy to work with and even allows hands on experience with engines if requested.

    Cons

Structured job titles and responsibilities as with any large corporation. High level management still has some old school views on things and some use intimidation techniques when asking about things. Different departments often don't collaborate for what is better over all for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't use intimidation to try and get answers out of people, it makes it hard to process things and they don't come out as they really are. Try to forget what has been done for the past xx years and look at what is best with today's technology. Don't be afraid to try new things.

    Pros

This is a great company to work for; I appreciate the leadership team and their visibility and availability. They desire to have a positive impact in the community by not only making volunteering options visible to everyone, but by encouraging everyone to offer 4 hours of volunteer time on work hours.

    Cons

Depending on which group you end up, the opportunities for growth might be limited. The pay can be below average.

Current Employee - BDM in Minneapolis, MN

I have been working at Cummins full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A company that has all the right core values and ethics. Stable and conservative company for long term career seekers with one company. A company focused on globalization and growing rapidly creating career opportunities for those who want to advance and grow.

    Cons

Compensation and bonus is low and not competitive compared to other companies in the same sector. Over played Six Sigma requirement for all employees defeats the original intent of Six Sigma creating too many useless projects that do not amount to any savings on cost or efficiency gains.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cummins needs to focus more on technology and product innovations to be a market segment leader in the global market. Too many "me too" products with no real value proposition with high price is the common feedback.
