    Pros

A very good. successful company with cutting edge technology. Real good compensation and bonuses for the whole workforce.

    Cons

Workload may be too heavy at times.Intermediate and sudden requests to employees to take international trips to solve problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Scientists are respected a lot as they are due. On the other hand SW developers not always get the respect and appreciation they deserve for the effort and the value they add. It may be a real good idea for the management to appreciate the contributions of SW folks and other engineering disciplines.

Former Employee - Technical Writer, Senior in San Diego, CA

I worked at Cymer full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There is a team environment at Cymer, a sense that everyone contributes something of value to the organization. Those who do not contribute do not last long. Hard work is rewarded with pay increases, bonuses and/or stock options.

    Cons

When the belt gets tight (cycle tied to the semi-conductor industry) there can be vast layoffs and departments can become seriously understaffed. The organization seems to be top heavy yet upper management seems to be the last place to take any "hits" during layoffs (which does not make for the best overall work environment).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When making decisions to lay off employees, cut less from your bottom line and more from your Director/Sr. Manager levels.

I worked at Cymer as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Extremely intelligent people to work for. Scientists etc... The product is great and the company just went through a merger and will grow substantially in the next few years. The company will do alot of hiring, however they only hire as contract, and not as a full time permanent employee. Therefore there are no benefits involved.

    Cons

Poor management, some do not know what they are doing, they have no previous experience managagin people.
Staff employees do not comunicate well with contractors, they seem to ignore contractors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn people skills...you get more output from your employees if you ask nicely instead of demanding.
