I have been working at D&B

    Pros

There is an extreme emphasis given to leadership development.

    Tuition reimbursement.

An overall push to develop employee's skills who want to develop.

    Cons

There is a limit to some professional develop since jobs in this company are moving to other countries other then the United States. The company may be growing but it seams to be growing outside the United States.

The company focuses on matching other companies in employee compensation instead of trying to distinguishing themselves from others.

When small business is booming and lending in business is stronger not a bad job.

    I worked at D&B

    Pros

At one time the base and bonuses were amazing.
The Health and Dental benefits were great.
Management was also pleasant to work for.

    Cons

They have a weak product and in the current market small business sales suffered. The problems with the product is that it is not used as wide spread with small business lending as with the larger companies and the information is only as good as the companies are reporting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to change the way you advertise the company. Most small businesses have never heard of you and therefore the need to use the high price point products are small.

    I worked at D&B

    Pros

Good knowledge-share within the company. Comp plan very aggressive with decent base. Flexible work environment. Product is superior to nearest competitor which makes it a good lead to sell services.

    Cons

Promised a lot of support but management never provided the tools needed to do the job. Money should be invested in marketing and growth but unfortunately, D&B is focused on protecting shareholders by reducing staff. Currently undergoing major restructuring and will continue to lose valuable people to competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management should give support by providing lead-gen tools in order for sales team to perform. Leaving your sales teams with no marketing budget nor warm leads will spell doom quickly, hence why new business is down and will continue to decline.

    I worked at D&B

    Pros

Great namebrand recognition and a leader in the industry. Relatively stable stock price. There are also a lot of pretty experienced/intelligent associates amongst the ranks.

    Cons

Poorly defined roles and responsibilities make it difficult for people to get their jobs done. Extremely long hours for team members on the West Coast caught between offshore locations and New Jersey. Typical corporate politics with everybody trying to impress their boss, or point fingers to deflect blame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do things to enable effective and efficient teamwork. Realize that past success has been on the backs of hard-working individuals who get things done despite the uncoordinated and factory-like mentality.

I have been working at D&B

    Pros

Co-workers are talented, motivated, team players, and generally nice.

    Cons

Too much of a focus on hitting quarterly revenue and operating income objectives, not enough focus on long-term investment, or what will best serve our customers. Has been and will continue to be a customer dissatisfier. Also, morale is down after series of layoffs, because everyone is working at their limit but it doesn't feel like senior management notices or cares.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Customers have to come before shareholders. We've been talking about this for years, but when push comes to shove, we cave into shareholders' interests every time.

Interesting work, great co-workers, but fear of job loss is the primary motivator applied by management

I have been working at D&B

    Pros

Work can be very interesting and many co-workers are top notch people. A 167 year old company with huge potential and a leadership position in business content gives you an edge in the marketplace.

    Cons

Short term focus; management by fear and decree; a decline in content quality caused by an almost solely automated content quality measurement process designed to tell management what they want to hear. The anwers you get depend on the way you ask the question; not necessarily the way clients experience the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on long-term and people not just quarterly earnings. Recent happenings in the market show what happens when you don't think ahead and when you don't value the people who make you the money.
