disappointing work culture for such an established company

Analyst (Current Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I have been working at DBS Group Holdings full-time for less than a year

Prosnothing positive yet to mention

Consno proper training for newbies - expect you to learn everything on the job nevermind, but dont even have a proper knowledge database to refer to

things get done at a snail pace - request for proper equipment, access can take more than a month

management frowns if you leave on the dot - even interns work up to more than 12 hours a day, work life balance my foot

Advice to Senior Managementpls make everyone go home on the dot unless there really is an emergency, management culture is to stay back as late as you can to finish up as much as possible. this is really due to bad planning or unwillingness to hire. no wonder the turnover rate is very high.

Horrible company. Does not value top talent pool.

Associate (Former Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at DBS Group Holdings full-time for more than 5 years

ProsNothing to talk about. Absolutely disappointing.

ConsElitist mindset - Management Associates / Graduate Executives get all the perks and benefits, even though many of them don't make the cut. Consistent top performers (without career acceleration tracks) are constantly undermined and underpaid even though they may be much better than the MAs/GEs.

MAs / GEs can be paid as much as an AVP with the bank for 17 years. Even escalation to management and raising concerns to Human Resources on such glaring inequality results in a token few hundred dollars pay adjustment.

Not asking the bank to pay everyone equally, but to at least ensure competitive pay for TOP performers. However this seems to be too much for them as they value their MAs/GEs like precious gold.

After working in this bank for a number of years, my pay has stagnated even though I am consistently recognised as my department's top performer. Record profits, but no record increments or bonuses. I am now leaving for greener pastures with a taste of disgust in my mouth.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your top performers fairly and show some respect by paying us equitably. Many of us have left because of this and it is now my turn. Your MAs/GEs are not infallible.

Horrible experience, did absolutely NOTHING to my career growth

Bank Executive (Former Employee)
Taipei (Taiwan)

I worked at DBS Group Holdings

Pros- Decent wage
- Some hardworking, talented and genuinely good people.

Cons- NO work-life balance, CRAZY workload.
- Terrible/unprofessional leadership - its not what you know but WHO you know. Dodges responsiblities but will not hesitate to take YOUR credit as their own when reporting to the higher authorities.
-Very political, it is always the SAME group of people doing overtime, and the same group of people leading a healthy, happy normal life.
  - Training given to new hires is a JOKE - jot down as much notes as humanly possible while your trainers go full speed at demonstrating his/her daily tasks, of which will become yours once this training session is over. Oh, and the notes that you just jotted down become the official SOP since there was NONE!!!!!
- High turnover rate (a total of 8 ppl quit during my first 3 months)

Advice to Senior ManagementSTOP for a minute and reflect upon yourselves to see why the turnover rate is so high. STOP blaming the employees.

Micro-management and slow

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at DBS Group Holdings

Pros- Minimal politics
- job security because of staff untion
- local bank with local employees if that's what you are looking for

Cons- tendency for managers to micro-manage
- slow to implement anything
- request for innovation and creativity but ideas are shot down
- lack of accountability and initiative
- boring and administrative work
- process redunancies
- legacy issues fueling the inability to make change in the company
- inefficient employees in the company because of legacy or the staff union
- below-market pay

Advice to Senior Managementlook forward to seeing CEO Piyush implement the changes in culture and people... which is the biggest cause for the high turnover rate in the company. Senior management should also encourage managers to give more responsabilities to their team members and entrust them to own it.
