    Great working environment

I worked at DIRECTV as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

When I came in they placed us in LA3 building which was kinda dated, we sat in a crowded conference room. Then towards the end we moved to the newly renovated LA1 building. Nice cubicles, contemporary interior design make you want to come to work.

    Cons

Their processes are still far from perfect, even though I got tons of support from my team while working there. Not a deal breaker but rather an opportunity :)

    Pros

Well structured TOGAF following top of the line technology

    Cons

Too many restrictions to consultants / contractors such as continuous 18 month rule then should have 3 month break.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat consultants alike employees if not, hire them.

    Pros

Great benefits, working and managing your own time, etc..

    Cons

piece work, income is not fixed so you are paid for each successful instal, you have to work fast to make good money, very corporate, more of a stepping stone company to get into the industry.

Former Employee - Installer/Technician in Salt Lake City, UT

I worked at DIRECTV full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The money is good once the training is complete. It is piece rate pay which means the more work that gets done mens more money paid to the technician.

    Cons

The fluctuations in the workload during the year caused monetary stress during slow times and sometimes technicians were asked to work only 4 days a week.

I worked at DIRECTV full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay for technician jobs. Anything else not so much. Benefits ate great. Good company to work for.

    Cons

Since the news of the att merger the corporate environment has lost focus on taking care of employees and more on making their own numbers look good. Management are not trustworthy at all at least at the Fresno office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make integrity a focus. "Support staff" are humans too.

I have been working at DIRECTV part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This is a great place to work. I worked here during college and DIRECTV was very flexible with scheduling and also provided tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Cons include that the scheduling got messed up pretty frequently, but they were always fairly quick to get it fixed. Another con is mandatory overtime at the beginning of football season.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company will listen to data and execute on it quickly it. Your ideas are taken seriously and you will have opportunity to show off your strengths. The pay is above market value, and the new HQ location is really nice.

    Cons

Lots of politics like any other big company, very fast past work schedule with lots of fire drills--can be very draining for someone with a family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in younger employees, have a straight out of college training program, and try to cut down on politics.
