I worked at DIRECTV full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

6 weeks training. 2 weeks in classroom and 4 weeks of on the job training with mentors
    Ability to move up
Pay started at $11 an hour
    Friendly
Works with employees instead of firing and replacing
    Free DIRECTV

    Cons

Scheduling. I was about to be put on nights with a baby on the way. Told them couldn't do it, didn't want to miss the first 6 months of my childs life. They couldn't help me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You help students do their scheduling so their school and job don't overlap but you won't work with others who have things going. At least talk to the employees instead of just having a team leader tell you no.

    I worked at DIRECTV

    Pros

The company has excellent benefits and pay for the location in which I live.

    Cons

The company has a disconnect between upper management and customer service. The attendance policy and tracking is unusual and isn't conducive to good morale.

    I worked at DIRECTV

    Pros

Good company overall. Learned a lot from the classes the provided. Also learned a lot from people around the company-- pretty much anyone and everyone is willing to sit down, have coffee, and network with you.

    Cons

Not every intern gets the most exciting projects or works with the most exciting teams-- I learned more from the "classes" than from my own project.

I worked at DIRECTV full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Directv has a lot of plus's for their employees. They offer free services, pension, and many other valuable add on's to employment that make it a solid choice to work for. The technical people at all levels are great and Directv has one of the highest employee engagement and ownership ratings of employee's I have ever seen.

    Cons

Current Directv is going through a merger with AT&T to combine it and Uverse. This could adversely affect how this company runs and continued employment. There are some great departments in this company but be aware there are also some that are very difficult to get ahead in. This is an Engineering driven company. Anything relating to Operations is going to be a tough place to work or get ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture of this company comes from a traditional broadcast or television company. If you are going to make it in today's fast pace world, you need to foster strong leaders that can drive change to a stronger IT or operational model.

    Great working environment

I worked at DIRECTV as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

When I came in they placed us in LA3 building which was kinda dated, we sat in a crowded conference room. Then towards the end we moved to the newly renovated LA1 building. Nice cubicles, contemporary interior design make you want to come to work.

    Cons

Their processes are still far from perfect, even though I got tons of support from my team while working there. Not a deal breaker but rather an opportunity :)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at DIRECTV

    Pros

Well structured TOGAF following top of the line technology

    Cons

Too many restrictions to consultants / contractors such as continuous 18 month rule then should have 3 month break.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat consultants alike employees if not, hire them.

    My experience was very positive

Former Employee - Installer/Technician in Salt Lake City, UT
Former Employee - Installer/Technician in Salt Lake City, UT

I worked at DIRECTV full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The money is good once the training is complete. It is piece rate pay which means the more work that gets done mens more money paid to the technician.

    Cons

The fluctuations in the workload during the year caused monetary stress during slow times and sometimes technicians were asked to work only 4 days a week.
