I have been working at DISH full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

When preparing for my interview I came to this site, and searched some about employee experience on the internet and saw it listed as one of the worst places to work. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and have thoroughly enjoyed my management, my office, my peers, and my work. Several years ago there was a reputation of the corporate side being run like the military. My experience in the past few months has reflected a much more laid back atmosphere with schedule flexibility, project flexibility, and fun co workers.

On a larger scale, it seems like the DISH products seem to be improving. It seems like DISH has a head start on the future with the ownership of all its wireless spectrum. It's an exciting time to start with the company.

    Cons

I'm underpaid relative to my education (though I've heard that with tenure within company DISH tends to pay better than competition). Benefits are meh. Healthcare is comparable to Obamacare. 50% match on 401(k) up to $5,000 ($2,500 match) isn't great, nor is the 5 year vesting period for it. Employee Stock Purchase Program is nice if there's wiggle room in your budget for it, but that might be a year 2 or 3 type of thing for young people.

There has been a high level of recent attrition, which may lead to disorganization, although it seems the company has turned the corner (on the corporate side) in terms of employee experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has a miserable reputation for its employees. This, matched with a low starting salary offer likely drives a lot of talented applicants away. I have loved my job from day 1, but I absolutely would not have accepted the job if my manager didn't knock my interview out of the park when I was there. I'd be missing out, but the reality is that the company is not appealing from the outside looking in yet.

I have been working at DISH full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Training, available OT. Shift bids.

    Cons

Disgusting customer base and company SOP for handling them. This customer first attitude has front line reps serving as punching bags for the managers sake.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employee's better. A lawn mower contractor shot a rock through my window and when I pleaded to human resources and they dismissed me saying that they could not do anything. That is ridiculous, its costing me a weeks pay to fix something a ignorant migrant worker caused. You aren't going to retain employees this way. I'm leaving next week.

I have been working at DISH

    Pros

Great place to work and make good money. They give you opportunity to make bonuses and always have good incentives and fun things for us to do. You can miss 5 days every 3 months without getting fired and you get vacation after working for 90 days.

    Cons

You can get stuck on a bad shift

I have been working at DISH full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Outside work company tools, van, gas card and cell phone

    Cons

Micromanaging, to many bosses pay does not match workload. Changed promotion structure making it very difficult to be promoted. To much third party involvement work orders very rarely correct customers constantly given the wrong information. Impossible goals techs judged on things that our in no way in there control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove heads from butts please if you don't take care of the people installing your equipment the job won't be done right.

    Cons

None for me as of yet in 2 years I even have flexibility with shift swaps to have three day weekends when needed to spare vacation time and to not lose sales pipe

I have been working at DISH

    Pros

Decent starting wage, advancement possible, paid overtime, 4-day workweeks, paid training, tools and uniform provided, van and gas provided, nice biweekly bonuses possible, paid holidays.

    Cons

Working 1 or both weekend days. Work until work is done, can't plan anything on evenings of working days. Work most holidays except Christmas and Thanksgiving now optional. Numbers/performance-based bonus and advancement and annual raise program that can be unfair (but is evolving and improvements are being made). Attitude of distrust between upper management and technicians. Perceived micromanagement from upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to trust employees a little more and not assume the worst. All the tracking is unnecessary and feeds paranoia.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been able to work in multiple business units and did so moving laterally and with promotions. Great opportunities to learn and contribute if you are willing to work hard - even in areas that are new to you, they will take a chance on people.

The company is aggressive, we are not afraid to change course and try new things, while maintaining focus on the customer. We are in a great competitive position today and continue to look for ways to improve.

The company accommodated me when a change in my personal life required a move from this market - into a new position from a home base, one that would not have typically been a home based position - and allowed me to continue my career. This is consistent with my overall experience with my management - focused on their team in addition to their customers.

    Cons

I think for some, our pace can be a challenge - as we are not afraid to make a change in product, offer, message - if we believe that it is one that makes us better. It's exciting to be a part of.
