I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Large company, lots of friendly people. The Satellite TV industry is amazing and DISH now has it's finger in other business types such as Satellite Internet, B2B/Commercial cable systems, Blockbuster Online, Sling Box, and also owns a lot of potential Cell phone bandwidth. The future possibilities are very interesting with this corporation. We also have the best and coolest technology out there with the Hopper/Sling/Dish Anywhere and the new commercial Smart box!

Having been with DISH for almost 15 years, I can say, the last 3 or so have been the best, we have seen a ton of improvement internally, some benefits were made to better suit the employee, some policies became a lot friendlier and more logical. I give Joe Clayton, our new CEO credit for this.

    Cons

Only two real complaints here, yearly salary increases are a bit on the low side overall, sure the company wants to stretch it's dollar, but come on, a very good /great yearly review should gross a raise greater than the rate of inflation. Secondly, and this is my largest complaint, health insurance, a family of (4) four, expect a deducible/co-pay that is well into the (5) five figure range. Come on, I could almost pay cash in full for a new Harley-Davidson for this amount! Here is an example, I went to pickup an allergy medicine, the pharmacist asked do you want to pay with insurance or cash? Naturally, I was thinking insurance, but I asked, what is the price difference? $72 with insurance, $12 with-out insurance the pharmacist told me. The good news, both yearly performance raises and the insurance issue should be easy fixes and I believe Joe Clayton and his team of uppers will get them worked out.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Being able to come into work with a positive mindset and reach your daily goals, and being rewarded for reaching them.

    Cons

The only thing that I dread about the job, is that while you have a very positive and optimistic attitude, others (customers) may feel a little different.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to set goals too high. Some customers deserve better attention than others.

    Pros

Most of the day I am my own boss but have management available if I need help. Great pay. Every day is different. Great bonus program. Positive feed back from management. Overtime available weekly. Three days off a week.

    Cons

Can have difficult jobs. When you can't figure out how to do somthing it becomes very difficult to describe the problem although people are willing to help. Insurance can be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have had great management. Continue to help and support.

    I worked at DISH

    Pros

The pay is decent and the 401k company match.

    Cons

Words of caution... supervisors and senior management are rarely on the same page. Constant disconnect in communication. Very immature coworkers who do not take their job seriously. High school environment. Better be in cahoots with the right people if you wish to be promoted. Performance and track record are not your key to success here. I was told when I was hired that there are "plenty of opportunities for overtime if you need extra money" which translates to you must work mandatory overtime at a moment's notice. For those in school and those with life commitments, steer clear. This is a mediocre job and mediocre company at best, so if you consider yourself a professional and have even an ounce of respect for yourself, you may want to consider looking elsewhere.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I love working for a company that puts real responsibility on my shoulders every day and isn't shy about rewarding me when my actions lead to success for the company and our customers. This fast paced environment has rekindled in me the spirit of competition and striving to be the best that was so prevalent in my youth. I'm a success story in terms of advancement - I've been with the company just under two years and have already been placed in a role with more responsibility (and more reward) than when I started. I couldn't be happier to be where I am with Dish.

    Cons

I was initially concerned about the changes to the health benefits this year, but I'm actually finding that I'm paying almost nothing out of pocket for routine preventative care for my family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay the course - I've seen many positive changes in the couple of years that I've been here at Dish, and I've heard numerous stories of how things were 5 years ago. The atmosphere is positive, the employees' voices are heard, and we're getting better every day.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I have worked at DISH for close to nine years and can say it is a fantastic place to work. Yes, you will work hard; yes, they set very high expectations for you; yes, you will be challenged every day; and yes, there are no massages, ping-pong tables, or free cafeteria food. It is a pure meritocracy and rewards passion, intelligence and results. And, it is one of the most exciting companies in the telecom space today. We are known as a disruptive competitor. That makes every day fun. I am proud to be an employee at DISH and love working at DISH.

    Cons

See above describing the type of work environment. This is not for every one.

I have been working at DISH full-time

    Pros

There are a ton of opportunities for advancement and growth. The culture is slowly beginning to evolve. Profit sharing is pretty cool and the stock price isn’t bad either!

    Cons

The Insurance programs are not great for families. I also don’t have as many holidays as friends with other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe the culture here was pretty poor years ago but can see improvement every year. Keep going. We're not there yet.

I have been working at DISH full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Extremely good pay for my area and there is always overtime available as well as approved time off if you're tired and need to cut a day short). If your attendance is good they will bend over backwards to work out a shift swap if something comes up. Excellent support staff always willing to help. In-house contests with great prizes to keep you motivated. It's made very clear what is expected of you and even if you're not getting great results if you're doing the right thing they recognize that. Beautiful, clean facility. Ridiculously cheap TV service because they want you to know the product.

    Cons

It's a tough job but it's customer service. That has nothing to do with the company itself. I guess I wish there was a little more flexibility when it comes to dealing with a gray area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing. I've worked in different corporate situations over the years and you're as close to getting it right as I believe is possible.
