I have been working at DISH full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Short Hours (right at 40 hours per week)
Exposure to Upper Management early on
High turnover (this is a good thing as there are opportunities to move up)

    Cons

Boring Work, low pay, red tape.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more. That said, it is definitely not the "worst place to work in America"

I have been working at DISH full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Despite a lot of complaints on this site about Dish, it's not really that bad. For a customer service rep, base pay is pretty good and OT is almost always available. You get health insurance and a few other benefits including the best Dish channel pack for free!

    Cons

You're constantly evaluated and compared to coworkers around the country by your numbers. Keep an eye on your dashboard, cuz if your numbers are below average, you'll probably be cut soon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at DISH full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

-Can be very rewarding if the effort is put forth.
-Profit sharing, and Dish programming discounts are really nice.
-Leadership development is also a great attribute

    Cons

No college degree? No promotion in management; plain and simple. (This is a new policy in the last year or so) Middle management gets the brunt of the stress from below and above which leaves little time to pursue a degree especially if you have a family. Most management departures are the result of either poor performance (understandable) or a direct result of family pressure from poor work/life balance.

Medical ins. Is also equivalent of purchasing your own. Very high deductibles and premiums.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better at identifying managers who are burning both ends of the candle before it is too late and they look elsewhere for employment.

Improve medical plans. There are plenty of companies at Dish's level that are able to do it, so why can't Dish?

    I worked at DISH

    Pros

The pay overall was good. Stock Plan was good. The people I worked with were good.

    Cons

There are too many factors in your commission, they force you to work overtime and pay you less than your hourly rate when you work the overtime. Management was always constantly changing for no reason. I've seen the best managers terminated through no fault of their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overtime is factored too much into your commission structure.

I have been working at DISH full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Dish gets a bad rap, but today it's not so bad. Good and honest coworkers, steady paycheck, paid training, all your equipment is provided, a lot of OT, performance based bonuses, promotions are available.

    Cons

Shifts start early in the morning as a tech. Usually at the shop by 7am or 730am and don't get off till almost 6pm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer better health plans. A lot of employees have families and frankly the current plans are some of the worst I've heard about.

I have been working at DISH full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Steady paycheck
    Health insurance
    OT
    Paid training
Work environment is decent at Riverfront

    Cons

Supervisors and HR can be very strict on hours, paid time off, and sick days.

    Don't try to trick them!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better supervisors. Our team just got a new supervisor who knows less than we do, so he's not much help

I have been working at DISH full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - One of the largest IT departments in the Denver area, so lots of opportunities
    - Enterprise development experience
    - Generally pretty good practices on releases
    - Cafeteria has decent food and it's well priced
    - Having worked in Dish is generally well-viewed by other IT organizations and

    looks great on the resume
    - Engineers are the best paid staff at Dish!

    Cons

    - Because of the mission critical systems and gigantic staff, releases can become

    bureaucratic and slow
    - Office politics
    - Office hours are strict. Be in the office before 9 or else!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See how teams can be made into smaller, multi-discipline units that can work more

    efficiently and with less bureaucracy
