I worked at DISH full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent pay.
    Some Overtime.
    Decent benefits.
Some computer work; data entry. Not on my feet the entire shift.

    Cons

This office is a smoking establishment, so be prepared to breathe cigarette smoke all day, every day.

Extremely high stress. You are expected to do the work of 2-3 people; you're expected to be exceptional. If you're the average employee, that makes mistakes, you're head is going to be on the chopping block every day you show up for work. Especially when upper management visits to inspect the office and warehouse.

I have been working at DISH as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The location of Denver, CO is obviously a huge plus and all the interns are housed in a long stay hotel where they can get to know each other well. The corporate headquarters is located on a beautiful campus right next to a golf course. My superiors were generally interested in my learning and the benefits I would take away from the internship experience.

    Cons

Not all interns are created alike, with some schools receiving more salary compensation than others.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Dish is a great place to work if you want to be able to build things. As a company, doing projects in-house is almost always preferable to hiring an outside firm. This means plenty of opportunity to build your skills in areas of interest.
The people are outstanding - fun to work with and dedicated to good results.

    Cons

Vacation time is relatively limited (2 weeks until 5 years).
Due to the nature if the industry things change often. If you like things to remain status quo for long periods you may find this frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with the employee events at Corporate - they are fun and provide a nice outlet for the hard work people are putting in.
Consider sharing department profit/loss responsibility downward within management. Currently maintained at the highest levels does not allow growing managers to gain experience managing a budget on a small scale.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

LOTS of opportunity to learn and grow. I can't stress this point enough. Access to middle and executive leadership coupled with challenging, cross-functional work enables growth and experience.
Recent leadership additions (in the past 5 years) are great and drive positive cultural changes.
Some of the best people I've ever worked with are my coworkers.
A lot of investment in cultural issues over the past few years (credit to CEO for driving much of that change).
Work-life balance is a priority for my managers.
    Profit sharing.
    Excellent Tuition reimbursment program.
    Recent investments in leadership training.

    Cons

Remnants of the older culture still around (bad middle managers, not adapting to changing workforce).
Benefits are so-so. Would like more time off, smaller deductible.
Lots of red tape to get things done. Much of it seems like it's done because that's how it's always been done.
Workplace is getting a little outdated (older furniture, conference rooms could use a facelift, etc.).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Much less micro-management in Operations. COO is involved in WAY too many things. Leadership in his org should have more leeway to make decisions and move on their own. Focus on strategy vs. implementation.
Continue with the cultural changes. They're much appreciated.
    Be more competitive with benefits.
Continue to invest in leadership training.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The pros at DISH are : 1. great, exciting products to work on. Major media company in Denver, don't have to move to NY or LA! innovative, disruptive and out in front of everyone else.

    2. The people here are fantastic. It's amazing how many smart, funny, outgoing people work here.

    3. If you are good and get identified as high-potential or a star, you get WELL taken care of. Not everyone fits this mold obviously, but for those that work hard and are smart, the sky is truly the limit. Good salaries (six-figures for good senior managers), stock options, etc. are all on the table for high-achievers.

    Cons

Can be really fast-paced, so those who like a easy 9 to 5 without any excitement need not apply. Lots of alpha types. Not super competitive between employees, but definitely competitive in terms of ideas and all-around pace. Gets hundreds of e-mails a day. Great for high achievers with energy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Things are getting good but don't take foot off gas pedal in terms of improving quality of life for employees. Lots of really smart talented people who deserve to be fairly compensated. not just high achievers. Health benefits still below industry standards.

I have been working at DISH

    Pros

I earn good money and I have so many opportunities to learn new things. I applied for and got a new position internally after only a year with the company. There are countless training opportunities and management encourages me to learn new things and to tackle new challenges. The 401(k) has a generous match, the company contributed to our profit sharing this year and there is tuition reimbursement and an employee stock purchase plan.

    Cons

The medical benefits aren't great, but I think most company benefits changed this year. 2 weeks paid time off is not competitive in today's work environment. Not centrally located.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revamp the paid time off policy and consider either allowing telecommuting or open an office that is more centrally located for those that don't live in the extreme southeast metro area.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I've been with DISH for a little over a year now and I am completely satisfied with my job. The people are fantastic and very helpful. The environment is fast paced and everyone is very friendly and extremely helpful. The work is challenging and there are lot of opportunities. Management keeps us engaged and we are very well informed.

    Cons

Benefits and PDO time could use some attention.

I have been working at DISH full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Never a dull moment - my favorite job I've ever had by far. Culture of employees who really care about being the best. I moved into a completely new job role here during my second year of employment - and after working hard for several years, ended up being recognized as a high performer inside and outside the company - a true entrepreneurial opportunity that I would have never been able to experience at another company. More recently, our CEO/President Joe Clayton is helping DISH become the company I've always wanted to work for.

    Cons

Still lagging in certain benefits and time off. Sharing of rooms when travelling (for employees below VP level)!!! Fairly cumbersome legal/contractual process when working on agreements with suppliers. No corporate procurement cards for travel or other expenses.
