Decent company, although could be much better.

    Senior Applications Analyst (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsGood benefits as far as health insurance, vacation, 401K. Decent opportunities to advance depending on the department.

ConsLack of training and support. Depending on the department, overtime can be excessive. Pay is embarrassingly below industry standards. Middle management can make or break your career which is a scary thought. Steer clear of USIRKS-although it's in transition there is incompetence at every level and management tends to reward those that don't challenge them and toe the company line.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire smart people and reward them. Quit rewarding incompetence and get rid of the dead weight.

Poorly managed call center that could be a great place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsHours are great. Generally scheduled Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm
Pay is decent, not bad for a call center.
Benefits are good, include health, dental and eye, life insurance.

    ConsManagers are untrained and unprofessional.
"Good ol' boy system." While I understand it is who you know that gets you an advancement, I don't understand by-passing qualified individuals in selecting non-qualified for positions.
Even though the company is promoting a cuture of engagement, my managers were not open to new ideas and only viewed it as negative feedback.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand your role in a customer service environment - you are there to support the front lines which is the people on the phones!
Communication is key to managing staff. Try working with your staff to avoid issues, listening to them to have a more positive overall experience for everyone.

    DST review

    Senior Software Developer (Former Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsOverall decent benefits, salary and 401K

ConsNot for older workers or Veterans. Very few workers are in there 50's.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up and realize the importance and the experience lost and that older employees are loyal. Don't have to worry about job hopping and moving around. All we want is to continue being fed knowledge and wisdom.

Upper Mgmt please notice how Dept. Mgrs. treat employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsSome Good Inspirational Mgmt exist that truly wants to see their department as a whole succeed and advance as well as company.

ConsJust because a person does an exceptional job at individual work and work ethics, this does not a manager make. Observe without manager knowing how they treat employees. Do they treat them with respect and fairness? Or do they humiliate and belittle and/or target specific people if they dare question their AUTHORITY. I worked for a manager described in the latter in a batch support environment, that made it a common practice to belittle, disrespect, and treat people differently within group depending on who stroked his ego best. Made for a dysfuctional, detrimental environment, especially when bad mouthing our own director right in front of his employees and bad mouthing other directors within support area as well.

Advice to Senior Managementwatch and observe your managers. They may not be what they appear.

Could be a great place to work, but employees are just too overworked.

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsGood health benefits, pretty good pay, some flexibility in working hours.

ConsUnderstaffed and poorly managed project teams, unrealistic expectations of workload and overtime. There's some hostility toward employees who have many years of experience and have been rewarded somewhat with higher pay and vacation time; they now seem to be regarded as liabilities rather than valued for their knowledge and experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in enough staff to delivery quality products.

Low Pay and you'll never get anywhere

    Application Analyst (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsSteady pay check, they have done some building renovations that are nice.

ConsLow pay, 10 years to promote, too much dead weight with tenure

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the dead weight and pay the qualified associates what they are worth

    Meh

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

    Pros- good benefits
    - quiet work environment (also can be a con)
    -great parking

ConsI just can't get with the rigid work environment and mandatory overtime. I swear my brain feels like it's frying by the end of the day. Micromanagement is at a high with this company so if you are looking for an "Office Space" type feel well this is the job for you. I do not feel like you can grow much within this company and I feel very well underpaid.

I think they need to research "google like" tactics to actually keep their employees. While the work environment is quiet it is also very dry and I feel indifferent about my coworkers. Not much for creativity or social interaction much at this company. I feel like they are way "late in the times" when it comes to their management. The computer systems are always "down." One would think that a big company like this would improve in technology.

Fortunately the TC's I work with are very nice and have been very helpful but at the same time this place is definitely not a place I work with for life

Advice to Senior ManagementLeave space for your employers to grow!

    Ok place, top heavy

    Technical Project Leader (Former Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsNot going away anytime soon, deep hold on the business market.

Constop heavy and management has background in tec not management. You are treated like office equipment. long. long hours. Linkedin has a group, ex-emps who hated the place.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop adding more managers, How many bosses can one person have. I had 3 managers, 2 Directors, 5 VPs and my team only had 4 members. Really. Most team have less workers than bosses.

    OVER WORKED AND UNDERPAID

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

Pros1)Flexible with schedules especially for the people that work part-time
2)Pretty good entry level pay for full service processors
3)Even part-time workers are off on the weekend
4)Other associates are pretty easy to work with
    5)Relaxed environment
6)At least you have a job

Cons1) Very untrustworthy management on all levels
    2) Lower level managers don't have a clue about the job
    3) To many people have a job because their parent(s) work their
    4) Poor communication with procedure updates etc
    5) Can be very unprofessional (emails are sent out when employees are fired)..."John Doe no longer works for DST" simply translates to "We fired John Doe and because we are tacky we sent you guys an email about it" (They do not send emails when people resign
    6) High turn-over rate
    7) Inadequate training
    8) Way to much overseas outsourcing
    9) Employees are not secure with their job unless they are management...always a threat of possibly losing your position
    10) You are pretty much stuck in your position for life
    11) So much more that I can't go on

Advice to Senior ManagementWay to many levels of management if some of those levels were reduced then their may be a better relationship between management and employees. Lower level management should stand up for their employees instead of stabbing them in the back. If upper level managers treated lower level managers with more respect then maybe just maybe they would care about their job more. I don't think management realizes how MISERABLE their employees are. DST is a good company and is offering a great service to it's clients, trust your employees and treat them with some type of respect and you will begin to see a higher level of performance as well as a happier more inviting workplace. You can't be so stuck in your ways and values that you don't embrace change.
