    Pros

They provided quarterly bonuses and flexible hours.

    Cons

Favortism is evident. In order to be promoted you must be friends with a supervisor.

    I worked at DaVita

    Pros

Amazing cafeteria, beautiful HQ, located in sunny Denver.

    Cons

This 'One for All' culture may work in the field (because you need a healthy culture when getting paid so little), but at corporate, it means nothing. They say that 'Fun' is their other core value. More like 'Watch Your Back'. This is a business whose margins are completely dependent on Congressional Medicare funding (which continuously gets cut). If healthcare is a cost cutting business, DaVita is just that in overdrive (rightfully so). If you want to create a wholesome company culture, then yes, corporate should emulate what it wants in the field. Unfortunately, this is only skin deep.

Unfortunately, you can have 99 great relationships at this company and 1 'so-so' outlier, and you could be at risk for termination. This is what happened to me. While they 'pride' themselves on transparency, people are still people and politics and prejudices get in the way. All I'm saying is this: don't treat this company like the best thing since sliced bread, be direct and aggressive, forget the popsicles and rainbows, and you should be fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs more holistic and transparent feedback.

    Worst job

I have been working at DaVita

    Pros

There are no pros. People stay cause they can't find a job elsewhere but NOBODY likes working here

    Cons

no 401k contribution. Ins choices stink, raises are paltry if at all ($.14-$.50) always pushing to clock in and out on time. Cut hours and pay with no notice. Run like a spending club for management. Corporate culture...BARF!!!!! That moron CEO gets to dress up like a knight and shout inane statement. The compliance is a joke and is presented at a five year old level. This place will make you stupid. Very little focus on the science of kidney failure tons of crap on being a good Davita employee. All charting programs run on DOS. In short this company lives for and at the mercy of the bottom line while the CEO made $23 mil salary last year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read you friggin mission. You are far off from being the employer of choice!

I worked at DaVita full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Davita business office does have very good potlucks and for the most part the Teammates are very open and diversified. Davita participates in many outreach programs for the community and for Dialysis related illnesses which is wonderful.

    Cons

Compensation is not equivalent to other billing Healthcare companies and they state they reward by performance which you can earn bonuses, attend academies and be eligible for Village awards...however, knowing first hand how this process works, not the top performers get those awards. It's always the Managers "favorite", usually the one at the top of the pay chain and most usually the one that doesn't get along well with other Teammates.
Since the indoctrination of SOX, it's unforgivable to make to a mistake and is a legitimate reason (in their eyes) for a write up no matter what your performance. You are expected to be 100% perfect at all times, no matter the situation. There is absolutely no room for human error and if you should make one, it's a performance review.
Those with tenure are especially scrutinized while others that are less tenured and have performance issues/corrective actions are placed on third/fourth and sometimes fifth "Final" corrective actions.
If your manager does not like you as a person, they will find reasons to manage you out, the feedback between teammates is not consistent and the corrective action given between teammates is most definitely not consistent.
Fun is one of the core values at Davita which is great, but it is "mandatory" fun and if you choose not to participate it is held against you and can be a detriment to your career if Leadership is a goal.
Of Leadership, most that want to promote would be willing to sell their own mothers to a third world country than admit to a mistake. They are not replacing the higher ups but are combing by attrition which means the Managers, DIrectors and those higher up are over worked and to a point less reliable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why give any advice, up to this point they don't listen to the feedback given, they only masquerade their objectives.

I have been working at DaVita full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good incentive to further education and scholarships for employees and family members

    Cons

Not a strong team work feel out on the floor. Only amongst a few close friends who feel they are better than everyone else. Kind of a better watch your back atmosphere or find a way to join the crowd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a close eye, very close eye( unannounced - kind of spying inspections) on the actual way things are being done on the floor when no one is looking and you better look fast to catch it, because they are quick at doing things they shouldn't in order to make things go faster and smoother even though it's not protocol. Kind of a hush, it works and we don't even know why that's a rule. It's ridiculous. We are on a time frame and we make it work.

I have been working at DaVita full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great fellow employees (whoops, we're supposed to say 'teammates'), great patients, good coffee (at our office anyway), the ice machine works, cups provided, everything looks clean and neat. I work at different facilities, some are much better than others, some of the direct supervisors are great, some are not. Overall, I love my job, not because of the company I work for, but because I love being a nurse and caring for people is my life's work.

    Cons

Overall, the company is a big fake with it's 'village' and 'mayor' and 'all for one' rhetoric. In fact, it's down right embarrassing. We have a joke where we say 'just drink the cool-aid' referring to the toxic fake caring verbiage and brainwashing atmosphere we're forced to swallow on a daily basis. Davita is a typical big corporation: profit comes first...always. Despite the highly paid people to spin it otherwise.
For clinical staff anyway, the work is piled on and then piled on some more...we wind up cutting corners because there just isn't enough time.
Most of upper management isn't clinical and doesn't have a clue what our jobs are, they see statistics and profit but not people. Some of the work arounds we clinical people have to do is ludicrous, in order to protect the patients and ourselves.
If you get sick and have to take a leave of absence, good luck getting your job back no matter how long you've been with the company.
The benefits are awful, which is embarrassing because we are supposed to be such a caring/loving/warm company.
You lose all PTO hours after 120 hours; this saves the company a bundle of money, although they said this is for our own good, and now by stealing our PTO we'll be forced to take time off. Not that it's easy to take time off, or encouraged to take time off.
Oh, and forget any meaningful cost of living raises. You'll be lucky to get a few cents more per hour each year. Big profits for our shareholders but not fair wages for the workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are intelligent people, stop trying to tell us you do things 'for our own good'. Hire upper managers with clinical knowledge. Pay your employees what they are worth. Live up to your core values instead of only expecting employees to follow them.

    Pros

Schedule is flexible, rewarding. Not for someone who is not self motivated

    Cons

Raises do not reflect cost of living increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Warm body in management is not the answer. Do not care about the patients only the bottom dollar.

    Pros

Fantastic core values and dedicated non-management clinical teammates.

    Cons

Insurance benefits are poor for a health provider. Poor upper-management. Upper management bases perceptions of people to hinder advancement verses results of performance metrics. If brown-nosing out of authenticity is your cup of tea then the sky is your limit with the corporate ladder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep employees that actualy live out the core values and love their job. Verses your personal perception of an employee. People deserve second chances and better benefits.
