    Poor management.

    Biomedical Equipment Technician (Former Employee)

Pros* Full-time benefits. Their benefits are great and come with perks.
    * Training available through their own customized online courses as well as certification courses provided sometimes out-of-state depending on your job function.

Cons* Management staff (especially in the area where I worked at: Dream Team, Region 1, Wild West) did not grasp the concept of being able to empathize with their employees' needs, issues/complaints, etc.
They handled everything from a more business perspective, swaying more on what helps the business grow instead of balancing it out to the point where it also helps to foster positive relationships amongst their staff. A lot of FA's with the exception of one or two had no clue how to get their staff morale up.
Conflict resolutions were biased in the favor of making the FA appear better than their staff.
Shady business practices was rampant. It's like the big-wigs just sat behind a desk and held meeting all day and didn't or selectively-listened to complaints/issues of their team.

DaVita has an extremely high turnover rate. A lot of employees leave and join other competing companies because DaVita is SO big, it can actually pay their employees LESS - in every job function.

They DON'T compensate you more when they assign you more work - and by "more work" I'm describing additional tasks on a consistent basis to the point that if AND when you don't finish, you get questioned. And EVEN if you explain to your boss how and why you couldn't get the job done on time, THEY DON'T BELIEVE and instead RELISH in their own management positions and simply reply back with a, "When WILL it get done?" when they should've been asking you "What help do you need?"

They cram so much work down your throat and you don't feel the appreciation from you teammates.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the shady business practices. Policy and procedures and audits are in place to help you team GROW and check itself, not slap each other's hands. There was hardly ever any TEAM environment in my experience.
Take time out to actually LISTEN and UNDERSTAND your staff. They're the eyes and ears on the field and if you tell them that they are and don't listen, then you're just being hypocritical of yourselves and your management-colleagues.

Unfortunately, the focus of DaVita management has changed from teammates and patients to money, stockholders, and ego.

    Group Facility Administrator (Former Employee)

ProsLots of options for for employment. Average benefit package but with good tuition reimbursement. A good set of core values that includes "Fun". Supports career growth. DaVita supports

ConsTeammates will not stay when merit raises are either at the rate of inflation or below and management continues to receive massive bonuses. No work life balance for Facility Administrators. Trust in management, especially at the Regional Operations Director and above, is gone. Patient Safety has been replaced with keeping within the budget no matter what. As with so many companies today, benefit packages are getting smaller and smaller; reduced Paid Time Off cap to 120 hours, no 401k, insurance premiums rise.

Advice to Senior ManagementKT, it is sad that the Village you started has changed into a company that is dollar driven. It is difficult to attend Villagewide at a company expense of millions when the bedside teammates do not get a decent merit increase. The sales pitch of paying our more in bonuses rather than 401k matching is nothing more than a manipulation of statistics. Why not offer a 401k match that would equal or exceed what is being paid out in bonuses. It was a great place to work at one time.

    Values only superficial

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Irvine, CA

ProsThere were some great people working there who truly believed in the stated values

ConsWith several acquisitions and growth Senior Management no longer pays any attention to their stated values. It is superficial. Disorganized company that wants to be better than they are but are arrogant to the point that they won't listen to anyone about how to be better. Not people oriented in the lower to mid management ranks.

It is a reasonable place to work place

Patient Care Technician (Former Employee) Fort Lauderdale, FL

ProsThe best reason to work at DaVita is to gain experience and help your patients during each treatment

ConsSome patients can be rude and take it out on the staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo provide some employee loyalty, understand that each patient is different and time situations can occur.

    All about profits

Dialysis Registered Nurse (Current Employee) Bakersfield, CA

ProsNot many I'm afraid.Sadly as with most health care companies the patients and staff are second to profits.

ConsNO MATCHING 401K.The company treats patients differently if they have a higher paying insurance.I've seen many patients schedules changed because someone with better insurance wanted to change there "spot".A fair amount of turn over.Bonuses are NOT very impressive and benefits are not the best if you have a family.A decent place to work but too many people have the same complaint of feeling wrung dry and used.It can be difficult to keep positive but those of use who still enjoy patient care are trying to stick together.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop jamming finances constantly down everyone's throat. We realize the company needs to make a profit but most teammates like to feel appreciated. It can be hard to treat others compassionately when you feel like a cog in a massive machine.Throwing parties and having a CEO who acts like a gloryhound is demoralizing. This isn't ancient Rome nor a cult.Professionals like to feel like they work for a professional company.Respect is a two way street.

Micro-management, over-worked employees and politically charged environment

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsForward-thinking organization, employ great people who really care for patients. Opportunity to continuously learn and improve by offering a great deal of online/classroom training.

ConsVery political - although claim they measure employees based on performance -- it is very subjective. NO WORK-LIFE BALANCE. Lots of turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to prioritize -- you cannot make everything a priority. Get rid of the managers in place that are creating a negative culture and poisoning an environment that could be really fantastic. The leaders at the top get it and have great ideas, but this does not trickle down to the Group/Divisional management.

    Strange and awkward.....

Process Analyst (Former Employee) Tacoma, WA

ProsI worked in “Team Tesla”, which is a process improvement group within the company. For the most part, coworkers were friendly, engaged, enthusiastic, and intelligent. Standard benefits and employee assistance, adoption assistance offered as well as tuition reimbursement. There were lots of opportunities for community service and company-sponsored outings. Commuter benefits.

The culture was certainly engaging and motivated for success. Plenty of opportunities for personal and professional growth. Lots and lots and lots of training for those new to the industry!

ConsWith the above pro’s in mind, I would seriously caution anyone desiring a role in project management or business analysis mainly based on the extreme micro-management of some of the leadership within ROPS as well as Tesla. Let me say that I entered this company with a positive attitude (they served Fat Tire at a beer raffle my third day – I intended to retire from DaVita at that point….). Though, after about five to six months into my employment, that positive attitude was slowly grinded to a screeching halt due to inadequate leadership, and very antiquated processes. Managers were promoted not on how well they could actually cultivate a team, but rather on how well they managed “tasks”. A HUGE difference between the two! Very, very low pay as compared to other companies out there. No 401k matching, expensive benefits. Mandatory travel over 50% of the time. The company wastes so much on travel…..many “corporate” workshops that achieve very little to better serve patients. Too much focus on metrics, tasks, and politics as compared to project strategy or holistic program management. Lots of redundant work within the same project. Attended the “academy” which must cost the company huge sums of money but they pay Patient Care Techs so low that these people can’t even afford to put money towards a 401k??? Horrible!

The company tried to act like an IT shop but sorely needs more experienced management to be able to harness the right talent to go more towards that direction.

Very cliqueish culture - reminded of my nerd days in high school. If you didn't act like others and get into all of the rah-rah antics, you were seen as an outcast.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice would be to begin understanding how important it is to cultivate LEADERS, not MANAGERS. Leaders help cultivate mission, strategy, and have a heavy influence on morale. Trust your people, and if they don’t fit into your “box” then widen your perspective and learn to deal with various personalities and attitudes. Don’t hinder innovation but embrace good ideas when they’re presented. Give every one a 10% raise and lower upper management’s (this means you KT!) by 50%! Without people, there would be no one to run your business……

Bottom line: put more focus on results versus presentation!

    Great People to work with

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery dedicated, hard working teammates from the F.A. on down. First priority is patient care. Davita, as a company excels in making sure we are all well educated in our professional fields to provide the best care to our patients with the best outcomes for them. Love that aspect and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our less fortunate patients.

ConsThis company exploits these hardworking, dedicated teammates with below industry standard pay. Minimal to no increase in Salary...even if you go above and beyond. No incentives other than to avoid the whippings on numerous mandatory phone calls. Some of their CORE values only exist on paper. Mega bucks spent on Management on up, outside, the clinic. Clinic worker bees constantly told...there's no money and they have to make more sacrifices, resulting in poor moral. We could be better "Davita", as employees, if you could only validate we make a difference with monetary awards and merit based increases.

Advice to Senior ManagementKenty Thiery--- Do you have any clue as to how your worker Bees are actually treated besides the way your DVPs tell you we're treated? WE ARE NOT HAPPY! Please, put your finger on the pulse of your company. Make it Great and Make it OURS...as promised!! We do believe in YOU. We don't believe in your middle management. Tell us, then SHOW us, we matter and make a difference. Bring back the Value award and create other bonus opportunities for those that Shine on the clinic level...were it matters most...were the patients are. And compensate us on true merit. I remain hopeful.

Difficult company to work for - oh yeah that's right we're a "village."

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are some very nice co-workers. There is not alot of room for advancement. Like the learning management system.

ConsEveryone off to "villagewide" this week - most likely costs millions of dollars, yet merit raises 1-1.5%. Management middle and above are slaves to the "metrics." Work life balance is a joke. The company has great core values and they are posted everywhere - unfortunately managers do not "walk their talk."

Advice to Senior ManagementHire folks who "know" the business of dialysis.

I'm sure it's great if you are a Redwoods Graduate.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros- People generally want to do the right/good thing for the patients
    - People work hard to meet goals
    - Decent bonus structure (for office teammates it is a joke)

Cons- Management is terrible (director level)
    - Leadership is nonexistent in middle management levels
    - Rarely promote within for management positions (manager, director and above) without being a Redwood graduate or from a consulting company
    - Work/Life balance doesn't exist unless you don't seem "engaged" in your work
    - No 401k match
    - HR is terrible (no way to provide a review for direct management? what is this, 1990?)
    - Office teammates seem to waste a lot of time and money traveling
    - Favoritism is the name of the game
    - Lots of interesting "affairs" at the higher levels

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote from within, Hire managers that are leaders and not just people that play with numbers, promote women

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
