    Hard Charging, Growing Company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsExcellent opportunities to work with IT Technologies and highly skilled professionals in the Engineering ranks.

They spend money to make money...opportunities for travel and conference attendance are abundant.

You are given a lot of responsibility but also a lot of leeway to be successful.

ConsDatalink "motivates" mostly through negative reinforcement.

Going through growing pains in the services organizations.

Had a whacky revenue recognition model that impacted bonues and commission schedules.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Aggressively growing company with a sink or swim approach to employees.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAt Datalink, we are fairly independent in terms of how we manage our business as Account Executives. Management lets us develop our own clientele, pipeline and drive business activities.

ConsWith the independence comes little help in the way of lead generation, marketing support, or sales campaigns. Datalink assumes each individual can grow their business on their own yet keeps a lions share of the profit on deals done

A pretty good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCompany continues to grow and do good business with large customers.

ConsProduct "focus" has gotten very large, but technical teams haven't grown to accommodate. Too little focus on individuals related to growth and support.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a line of communication to field level employees and listen to them. Make sure the span of control isn't so large that field employees feel left out on their own.

    Access to many technologies

    Technical Support Engineer (Current Employee)
    Eden Prairie, MN

ProsThere are many different technologies that you work with which offer daily challenges.

ConsCustomer growth has grown beyond what employees can handle.
The 'on-call' is more like a work shift with very limited compensation.
Management goes after profit without considering the effect on employees.
Movement outside customer support is shunned by management.
    Advancement opportunities are very limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the suggestion from your employees.
    Provide advancement opportunities

    Great Leads, Horrible Management

    Tech Installer I (Former Employee)
    Raymore, MO

    ProsGreat Co workers.
    Great hours.
    Good pay.
Company decided to convert over to union which was a really good step.

ConsHorrible room for growth in wages.
Was threatened to be fired if I went to the union hall for my promotion once I reached my hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe legit and dont hide so many things from your workers in the field.
Give promotions when they are actually recieved and respect all your workers.

    Positive, but challenging.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat team of engineers with great depth and industry experience. Interesting technology. Peer support is very good and collaborative. Good work environment.

ConsNot enough focus - too many product/solution offerings. Limited upper management visibility. New sales rep turn over is challenging. Definite separation between upper management and employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsult a broader employee base when you are consider new product/solution offerings. Focus on mastering defined technology areas rather than providing mediocre support across too broad a base of products.
