    Pros

Staff are great and generally caring. Company is flexible in terms of leave.

    Cons

Management have OCD about folding clothes and how visual merchandising looks. Yes it's important but they never stop harassing you if they're not happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give staff more freedom to give their ideas.

I have been working at David Jones part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They're good at giving flexible schedules with regular hours for part-time staff but ability to flex up during busier periods. I wouldn't recommend being a casual here as they rarely get hours in some departments and can go weeks without a single shift.

    Cons

    Almost always shorted staffed
Customers constantly complaining at your for staffing levels
    No support from management

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at David Jones part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Reasonable brand, stepping stone to elsewhere. Your prospects are of course dependent on immediate line manager, but this is true of any company.

    Cons

Disorganization and outdated IT systems. Staff levels not what they were before, with customer levels descending to Myer's level. Communication with casual staff not good, but I think this is more a function of bad systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together on the systems front!

I worked at David Jones full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Very Nice people work at David Jones for the most part. From CEO downwards. Most extremely competent too.

    Cons

Very Hierarchical to the point of hysterical where if someone shows initiative people feel threatened especially in the stores area. Lots of bullies in merchandise. They have signs everywhere like "see it do it" etc. But all these are 100% motherhood statements of no account. 5 Star customer service expertise / ethic is gone/ dead/ kaput.

I have been working at David Jones part-time

    Pros

nice staff, decent wages (with the additional commission)

    Cons

forced to sell amex cards and will be fired before probation period ends if sales quota isn't met, work environment becomes overly competitive with people fighting for commissions and not helping each other out, also seriously understaffed, training is insufficient if you work in anything that isn't apparel or food.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    actually provide useful information

I worked at David Jones part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

David Jones gave us the best salary in retail industry as a casual worker.

    Cons

Managers were changed quite often. During my 1 year+ stay, I had three different managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more staff, it's damaging to David Jones' reputation when a customer walked into a department with only one staff member.
