Lack of concern for employees overshadows great properties.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Baton Rouge, LA

ProsGreat benefits are offered to all employees. The property I worked on was beautiful and well revered in the city.

ConsLack of training, concern, and communication leaves employees feeling put out or terminated when things do go as planned. Decisions are made with no input or concern for employees who are the ones that implement those decisions. I am very disappointed after giving my best and was not shown any concern for my complaints of hostile work environment. Long time employees are protected even in potentially liable situations.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo you know your employees? Do you care to? If you notice behavior you don't condone, take some time to find out why? Maybe there is an easy solution that the ones you are using now. You probably have some great people on your team and if you don't recognize value and give people an outlet to communicate you will not have an opportunity to make the most of all you have. After reviewing the core values daily during employment, I feel like it was just words. You do not live your core values.

Davidson lost in the dark ages

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsNone
    None
    None....
There is a 20 word minimum so I have to type some thing else.
The only positive is that I get a pay check every 2 weeks.

ConsThere are a lot of cons. Davidson corporate does not respect the balance between work and family. Management works 60+ hours a week. The corporate mentality is guilty until we prove you innocent. They do background checks on current team members, they have random drug test on current team members. The waste of paper is crazy. Corporate has hotel audits 2 times a year, why 2 times? Corporate doesnt answer emails. you are expected to do things correctly but no one lets you know how to do things correctly or what needs to be done until corporate needs it

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the people who work on the hotel level. We know what our customer wants.
ease up on the paperwork. A manager can't manage their team members under a pile of paperwork. Managers shouldn't have to choose between work and family.

A small company trying really hard to compete with the big boys

    Catering Sales Manager (Former Employee)

ProsThey franchise some of the larger brands and you will have access to some of those company's benefits. They do have policies and procedures in place unlike some smaller companies.

ConsThey try to do a lot with very little. Small budgets, big dreams. They expect managers to be their own assistants and do it all (literally doing your own file keeping and any other admin work). You will work like a dog and if you don't fit in with their cliquish society you will never move on up.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe a little more open minded that some communities work differently than the way you are used to running it from home base.

    Good but with a price

    Sales Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThey are available to talk to you. They give you a change to move up. They seem to listen to your concerns, but it comes with a price. They seem to want to work with someone to make them better.

ConsForms, forms, and more forms there is a form to fill out a form. Impossible budgets to make. The price to the above, you can be black balled if you point out a concern.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back out into the field and see what is really going on.

    Career Opportunities Abound at Davidson

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Memphis, TN

ProsExcellent opportunities for career growth in the hospitality industry - time and time again, employees have started at the bottom and worked their way up into a senior level management position. Dedication to the industry is the key. The hospitality industry needs to be in your blood, and for many people, it just isn't.

ConsMorale is quite low at some properties due to high turnover and poor communication between managers and employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementCorporate needs to take a look at those properties scoring consistently low on their survey scores and intervene - find out the real reasons why employees aren't happy.

    Disappointing

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe company is growing so there are opportunities to relocate.

ConsThe growth of the company is somewhat uncontrolled. As a result, management training is limited at best. The company's intranet and SOPs have not been updated in some cases for 8 years or more. The benefits offered are of good quality but extremely expensive. Management is expected to work a minimum of 50+ hours per week, although their salaries are below market. Most hotels are expected to perform without sufficient staffing levels. Morale in most places is low.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter management training for new hires. Re-evaluate management salaries. Do not break down the salaries of managers based on 2080 hours annually because they are required to work far more.
