I worked at DeVry Education Group full-time

    Pros

Built great relationships and met great people. I made life long friends with some former colleagues. It felt good to help students that actually needed and wanted the help.

    Cons

Its hard to get into other positions unless you are good friends with management. There are 300 other advisors that want to get out of admissions. Position can sometimes be repetitious if nobody is answering the phones. Hiring managers are not honest with prospective employees in interview about having to have so many students start class each session.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest in hiring interviews, people have left great companies to come here and find that the position was much different than what they were told it would be.

    Pros

work life balance is good, even though you are requied to work some Saturdays. Co-workers are fabulous. They really do care about the students. Try to make the work environment fun.

    Cons

layoffs every year. disconnect between home office and branches. Too many changes going on between all departments. Admissions are blamed for everything. They have cut inquiries by half

I have been working at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great team environment and employees tend to respect others. I was able to complete two Masters while employed which was a perk. Team building events and outings were always a nice bonus as well.

    Cons

Compensation packages changed yearly and required constant monitoring. Numbers driven environment caused tension at times amongst teams and departments. An overall weak brean in the job market, and with fluctuating enrollment came massive layoffs.

    Cons

some departments work 60 hours a week and do not receive a bonus

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Benefits are good, and I was able to complete my degree while I was employeed. Most of the time management is flexible with you, assuming you are meeting and/or excedding expectations.

    Cons

Compensation packages changed every year I was there. The company grew too fast, and now they have had an average of 2 layoffs over the past 3 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management is very disconncected from actual day-to-day actvities, and misunderstands the kind of support that their employees need in order for the company to grow again.

I worked at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits are decent and the culture is positive and respectful. This is a good place to be an employee.

    Cons

The "cash cow" of past practices is drying up. If the old ways of doing business aren't reinvented with a new value proposition, the slash & burn reductions in staff of the past couple years will likely continue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reinvent DVU! Find a curricular focus and stay that course.

I worked at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People are smart. Compensation is average. Benefits are decent. You do feel like you are helping students get an education who otherwise would not have access to an advanced degree

    Cons

Budgets are tight and funds are totally dependent on enrollments so the ability to do things can go up and down. Some decisions are penny-wise pound-foolish. Many people just like to do things the way it's always been done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with flex hours. Listen to the recommendations that come from the troops. When enrollments are down, don't take a cut evenly across all depts. Some are small and necessary.
