I have been working at DeVry Education Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company values diversity and encourages employees to take responsibility for their careers by utilizing the tools and classes provided.it's a partnership. They are striving to be a World class organization and has plans in place to move forward. Great bonus-Work from home option which has help to balance work and family life in a positive way, also more team recognition.

    Cons

We are busy but it is a good busy because we are caring for our students. Fast pace environment and can be a little stressful at times so being positive is really helpful. At the end of the day you can have many training opportunities due to changes.

    Advice to Management

We have so many positive accomplishments. I would ask that the open communication continue about the direction we are going and how are we doing. Appreciate the town hall meetings and conference calls as a method of staying informed.

    Pros

    - Very ethical organization for the education industry - A lot of internal programs geared towards the employee included flex work hours and remote employment possibilities - solid employee benefits - strong opportunity to grow beyond the individual employing institution and out into other schools within the corporation's portfolio - Fair pay that is based on industry and location analysis - strong belief in a culture that puts the student (customer) first

    Cons

    - Culture can tends to be on the cynical side when times are tough - Depending on the institution within the organizations portfolio, management hierarchy can be top heavy

    Advice to Management

Continue to try and improve culture with the addition of more social programs that have interaction amongst employees

    Pros

The company culture centered around the TEACH values is truly a tangible element of the positive "vibe" at the company.

    Cons

We get in our own way sometimes, we have way too many meetings, are title conscious at the risk of not making decisions and in general are risk adverse. I want to see more BIG ideas.

    Advice to Management

Run with a BIG idea and get everyone involved.

    Pros

DeVry Education Group is an established company that is genuine in its' commitment to long-term decision making and value on quality vs. short-term decision making. Furthermore, I have found DeVry Education Group to be committed to career opportunities for it's colleagues and have seen multiple examples where colleagues have taken on different roles within a department or even different business functions.

    Cons

DeVry Education group strives to become even more innovative and it needs to continue to pursue a proper balance between conservative quality output and taking appropriate measured risks to support innovation.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on long-term decision making as you have.

    Pros

Challenging and interesting projects are readily available and there are plenty of stretch assignments given in my area. This gives people room to grow within their role and through interim assignments and promotion. Overall, I believe the organization does a pretty good job differentiating high performers via performance management, pay, and career growth opportunities. Is there room to improve in that area, absolutely. But I think they are doing their best under the circumstances. Upper management, for the most part, seems to truly believe in the mission and values of the organization. Communication to employees is balanced between optimism about the future and caution related to the current challenges in our industry. Culture is a trendy buzzword in business these days, but it is something the organization is really starting to focus on and I am interested in seeing where it goes. I believe the culture was already relatively strong here, but consistent application can take it to a new level.

    Cons

The organization can do a better job of discussing expected or desired career paths with employees...from both the employee's and organization's perspective. Up to this point in my career here, I am unclear as to what potential plans the organization has for me and how that might fit into my career goals. Growing pay outside of the normal review cycle seems to be easier under some leaders than others.

    Advice to Management

Explicitly communicate succession plans and drive consistency in the actions of you and your teams, particularly as you roll out any new culture initiatives.

    Pros

They truly have the best interest of the student in mind. One of the main mottos is "Doing well by doing good". Its a rewarding company that is dedicated to helping students succeed. By seeing these students accomplish their goals, it makes you go home at the end of the day feeling like you accomplished something.

    Cons

As in any company it there are departments that are guarded. However I have seen a shift in recent years to departments working together and not as silos.

    Advice to Management

Add more programs in all your schools and ones that are asked about often. Keep up the great work.

    Pros

Flexible work options (dependent upon manager and group); comfortable and clean working environment, amiable atmosphere, good benefits, great location.

    Cons

Top-down culture; focus can run toward decrees from top rather than from vetted information. Lots of turnover is disruptive to business processes and morale. Working technologies can be lagging and do not serve to connect knowledge nodes across the organization well.

    Advice to Management

Enable and champion/reward cross-functional sharing and learning across the enterprise via state-of-the-art technologies to speed innovation and reduce redundancies. Take hierarchy out of that process as well.

    Pros

This organization has enabled me with the ability to grow and move within it. They have supported my career goals and aided my in pursuant of new roles.

    Cons

Concern regarding the health of the for profit school market place. Because of that there has been waves of layoffs the pass couple of years that have created a level job insecurity.
