ProsI worked at Dealer.com pre-Dealer Track Integration and the company culture was great, very supportive of a work-life balance, and great management within the Finance department.

ConsCross-departmental cooperation was not always there and advancement opportunities became limited as the company continued to grow and recruit outside talent.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure to retain the talent you have.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Excellent opportunities in an exciting, market-leading but human and sometimes flawed company.

    Senior Manager (Former Employee)

ProsYou can make your own future by taking risks, caring about the customers, and workng hard. There are opportunities for both tech-oriented and soft skill folks, but don't expect to rise to the top overnight. Some of the products are groundbreaking while others are still playing catch up. Fantastic spirit and culture both in Vermont and Manhattan Beach.

ConsRecognition can be sparse if you have the wrong manager. Communication between departments, especially Sales, can be almost non-existant, though it is improving over time. The acquisition by Dealer Trak may mean more red tape and slower pace of improvement, but hopefully it will mean more resources for the most overworked departments. Talented staff often loses heart because managers do not mentor or develop them. Sell more, work harder attitude often prevails. In several product areas, smaller, more nimble companies have an advantage.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure managers can manage and develop their talent, not just squeeze them for more productivity.

A fast-paced place to work with many benefits

Manager, Digital Advisor (Current Employee) Burlington, VT

ProsDealer.com possesses an Innovative work environment that encourages you to be yourself. There is immense learning and development opportunities for all types of careers. It is clear, from the executive team down, that employees are highly valued and cared for.

ConsIt is a company still enduring growing pains and can often make decisions that appear arrogant. There is an attitude that anything can be accomplished, which is good, but it is often overused and leads to reorganization or sweeping process changes that are not appropriately vetted.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe the horse, not the cheetah. Everything doesn't need to be explosively fast, sometimes slowing down a little will speed you up more long term.

    Positive

ProsIt's a fun loving group of people who, in general, know how to strike a good balance between home and work life

ConsA sizable number of employees party pretty hard, especially at company wide events. Those not comfortable with drunkenness and loud music may not fit into the social scene as much.

Fast growing, young company with a good heart.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood energy and a lot of great benefits for employees. So far, I'd have to say this is probably the best company I've worked for. It's not perfect but its no worse than any other company I've worked for and the the employee focused programs/benefits are worlds better than any other company I've worked for.

ConsMost of the cons are those that can come with a company growing really fast with a lot of really young people in the ranks.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need more organization. The initial training is great but there should be more position specific training.

Great Company - Rewarding with a lot of Growth Potential

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people are fantastic - hard working but also a lot of fun. It's a big start-up - which means a lot of rolling up the sleeves to get work done, but also a lot of opportunity to contribute at every level. The emphasis on health is nice, although a bit extreme at times, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! I think the company and its leaders are always striving to do the right thing for its customers and its employees - what a lot of people may not understand, especially those with little working experience, is how difficult (and at times conflicting) it can be to grow a company, maintain competitiveness, meet board expectations, and keep the culture thriving. If you can ride the wave here, it's an amazing experience to be a part of.

ConsSome instances of immature leadership. Limited talent pool in VT.

    Great work environment

User Interface Developer (Current Employee) Burlington, VT

ProsDealer.com has an amazing set of benefits above the basic health, dental, vacation, and 401k contribution. Onsite fitness classes and fully featured gym, subsidized organic / locally sourced cafe breakfast and lunch service, chair massages, chiropractic care, ergo consultants... and much more. Did i mention the parties? Two outrageous events every year that are talked about all over town.

ConsDealer.com has grown at a tremendous rate for good and bad. The engineering organization has several layers of management. At times this gets in the way of efficiency. The middle guys don't seem to have clear purpose other than to appease the upper guys and they tend to swoop in mid-project and ask all sorts of questions that would be obvious if they were paying attention earlier on.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo your homework before interrupting meetings.

Great Place to work but Management Makes Poor Decisions.

Digital Advisor (Current Employee) Burlington, VT

ProsGreat facility, organic cafe, gym, ping pong, putt putt, Skii Passes awesome parties.

ConsTerrible interdepartmental communication, cliques, who you know not what you know gets you promoted. Too many clients to manage and too little time. Need more employees to balance work load until then customer service will suffer.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove Communication and improve work flow. This has started with the Digital Advisors and needs to happen in every department.

    Great place to work!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Burlington, VT

ProsDealer.com cares about its employees, and there are a LOT of great perks that come with working here.

ConsIt seems that most of the perks are aimed at young singles. It would be nice if there was more for families.
