OK Place to work, not for anyone looking for excitement.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Lake Success, NY

ProsThey are understanding. Everyone is very nice. Its very casual environment. The people aren't at all snobby. Easy place to work.

ConsIt can be incredibly boring. They don't use their resources greatly. Its not an exciting fun place to work as a younger person.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't take away peoples pay. Offer any fun events for employees to do to break up the day to day monotony.

    Heavy in the middle

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Irving, TX

ProsStable, so long as you made your manager happy. Lots of opportunities for growth and different career paths in the industry if you don't mind moving.

ConsLots of middle management, 80% of which are career managers and not "doers" who rose through the ranks. The upper management generally has their act together, but getting anything done or communicated down the chain generally wasn't effective.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't try to be so diverse. You don't need to have everything for everyone. Concentrate on areas of strength and stick to what you know.

    Mediocre company. Too many politics.

Senior Programmer (Current Employee) Lake Success, NY

ProsBenefits Ok. There is flexibility with working from home.

ConsPolitics, politics, politics. There is very, very little communication between (or even within departments). Employees not located in New York are treated like second class citizens. DealerTrack is a software development company that is very slow to investigate or adapt to new software technologies...they often times have the blinders on too much.

Advice to Senior ManagementFor the most part, I'm very satisfied with my senior management. The one and only gripe I have is that the chain of command/department structure on paper looks ok, but in reality is very muddled.

    DealerTrack a Good Start

Content Developer (Current Employee) Portland, OR

ProsGood entry level jobs for people without technical degrees. They are flexible when it comes to time off. If our stock would ever take off we all receive options when we are hired onto the company. In general people are pretty happy.

ConsIts really boring. There isn't any room for creativity. Our stock has not taken off. It has lost more than half of its value from a few months ago. We depend too much on large contracts. Workload is quite seasonal. There is minimal communicaion between different divisions of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow for more 'extracurricular' activities.

Was once a great place to work, but they are forgetting how they got to where they are at.

Senior Product Specialist (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsDecent pay, but that is starting to decrease.

ConsNo opportunity to move up. They do not promote from within. They have also changed our pay plan every year. Each year it get's worse. I think this will be a $75K a year job within the next 1-2 years.

Advice to Senior ManagementGot out in the field and see what our customers are really saying. Many products have challenges and we have not spent the time to resolve these issues.

Values and mission of field offices not the same as Corporate

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat company that has a good reputatiion within the auto industry across the board. The company offers practical solutions for dealers, lenders, OEM's etc. There is a good senior leadership team in place in the Lake Success, NY corporate office. Great benefits and competitive compensation.

ConsMany business sctors of thte company are acquisitions. Corporate has not done a good job of implementing the Dealertrack culture into those acquistions. The acqusition leadership team remains in place and several of various acquisitions top management does not hav a corporate vision of where they want the businesses to go. Many senior leaders of the qcquired parts of Dealertrack are not even qualified to ask "do you want to supersoze that value meal?" There is very poor communication and knowledge transfer is non-existent.

Advice to Senior ManagementDIve into the leadership of your parts of the company that have been acquired and get them on the same page as Corporate. Make them implement the same values, programs, etc. that you implement in Lake Success to make the company as a whole a much better place to work. When this si done you will see a drarstic drop in employee turnover. Currently over 70% of the employees over the past two years have left the company or are actively looking for other opportunities.

OK - Mixed feelings & Only a Sales job

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsDealertrack has many great things going on for them. On the upswing of business from a terrible market crash. With that said, they offer desirable PTO hours, paid holiday time off, health club and education reimbursements, and regular HQ communications keep employees in the know.

ConsThe raises are pretty insulting, and it's not just me being bitter. While I've been at the company, there has been little to no room for advancement; the same people work in the same places. There is a huge trend of favoritism and it definitely shows. What a joke it is trying to communicate with senior management and HR!

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs pay attention to the little guys, you know the ones that make your money. Please keep in mind that the cost of living is getting higher and higher every year and consider that when doling out pay increases. How about not taking weeks to respond to emails.

Satisfied, but not enough career development

    Quality Assurance Analyst (Current Employee)

    Pros*the people
    *interesting projects
*relevance of work to real world

Cons*not enough opportunity to develop and expand skill set
*too many home grown tools, and not enough industry-standard tools

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in industry standard tools to keep up with the competition's QA teams
