It is a 15-year-old a startup firm that runs in chaos every day.

    Pros

Other than making a small group of colleages who became friends, there were amost no Pros!

    Cons

    1. The company has 4 different change management systems. Different departments use their own preferred change management systems. Support staff who did the actual production got blindsighted on production changes all the time.

    2. The management staff of the development team are trouble enablers. They encourage their staff to exclude DBAs on database designs and developed problematic application codes in production. They did not take responsibilities for their lousy work, but blamed on the DBAs. They played the blame game perfectly and always got away with it. Of course, they got rewarded with promotions!

    3. The management staff and QA analysts of the testing are also trouble makers. They did ask their DBAs to do low value work such as loading, updating and deleting data or running meaningless queries. Their quality of their so-called performance testing is very limited to unit and integrated testing level.

    4. Too many middle management who excels in micromanagement.

    5. High unpaid overtime all the time. Management rarely offered comp days. They burned people out and replaced them.

    6. Intra-team and inter-team bullying happen from time to time. Staff from their Dallas office could just dump work on their overwhelmed and overworked teammates in New York office and did not even care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut back your wasteful promotion on your trouble enablers above and pay close attention to the quality of work they deliver. They are the one to be blamed, not awarded!

"Work horse" style / Mediocre pay and small increases / Terrible insurance plans

I have been working at Dealertrack Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

DealerTrack has attracted some extremely good employees - They've also LOST a significant amount of these GOOD employees, due to the "work horse" style and burn out factor... This is the worst company to work for.

    Cons

Senior management is micro managerial and often de motivational. My advice here is to accept it and move on.

Mediocre pay and small increases. Untenable work hours/expectation (consistently 60+/week). No respect for your personal time (you are expected to respond even when off duty), or needs (Dr/DDS appt, sick time, family, community service/volunteer work. etc). The company touts work/life balance but runs you 60+ hours a week, every week. Company is on an acquisition tear.

The current management system is an antique of the last century. Lots of distrust between employees (oh, excuse me "team members") and management for good reason. They heap piles and piles of work on your stressed out shoulders then make you participate in wellness programs they don't give you time to do or get financially penalized. Managers don't even know how to manage.

Terrible insurance plan and pay was not proportionate to the work. Overall Benefits below average compared to other companies of similar size in the Greater New York Area

Bottom line is Low pay, micro managers, difficult managers, they don't value their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None..They don't care anyway

I have been working at Dealertrack Technologies full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Some of the employees are nice and dress is fairly casual which can be nice on a stressful day. Lots of parking.

    Cons

The training is awful! You sit with someone who does nothing but complain about having to train you. Then they do there work ( don't explain anything to you) & then ask if you got it. What?! Then she / he talks down to you as if she / he's better when clearly she / he has no ambition because she's still there. Pay is less than other call centers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a person to train that wants to & don't assume because she or he says they are training you that they are. Your not going to hang onto anyone long term if you don't take it seriously. Also some of you treat the call center reps like your better, umm we all put pants on the same way. Also I was told that they don't expect you to get it all in 3 weeks but the other person I was trained or NOT trained with was let go because she didn't get it in 3 weeks.

    Pros

Great flex time low accountability, seems some of the acquisitions (clickmotive particular) are so lax you can get away with murder

    Cons

management (clickmotive specific) is pathetic. Seems they have no clue how to work with people unless they grew up with them or went to school with them...run, don't walk from any offer from the Dallas team. Furthermore, anyone that knows about their security breaches to their clients would divest of the stock. The fact they ignore prime PII security issues for excuses is embarrassing as well as criminal. Follow the local news story that's likely to spread on this shortly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow up...put real people in place of the clickmotive clones in place. These guys have no clue about how to work with new personalities, let alone any one that challenges them

    Pros

there are not alot of pros. you have a job and that is about all you can say

    Cons

micro managed. you have to put down every minute you work so that it adds up to 8 hours a day. you have to spend more time doing this than doing your job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

let people just work and do their job and get off back sides and stop making people feel like they walk on egg shells. People were happy when it is fdi, it was like a family then. now all you care about is quanity, no quality. people can't live under a microscope

    Pros

Location is in Long Island. It's a job.

    Cons

Senior management does not care about their employees. Their disability policy will leave you with no pay at a time you need it the most. They know this and just don't care. Lots of distrust between employees (oh, excuse me "team members") and management for good reason. Pros

Compensation is relatively good. Some good products.

    Cons

Their focus is on acquiring companies that provide solutions to better the dealer body. Though this is a great vision. It is poorly executed and poorly managed. Once the company is acquired the integration of the company within DT is not done properly. There is tons of miscommunication, redundancy of work, and no one really knows what others are doing. Especially if you are a field employee.

Training is non-existent and management is really out for themselves. Its a shame. I did not feel "at home" here and am glad to have left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on creating a good culture and perhaps turn-over rate won't be as high.

    Pros

Coworkers, friendly, balance, team work, fun

    Cons

Very Low pay. Management is aware that we are under paid and do nothing, or say that it's out of their hands...but they're cashing out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You will continue to lose your best people because you don't pay market rate.

Thought to have a future when hired

    Cons

Watch out for yourself being fired by irrational mangers who loose their head.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People get sick.It is not something you can fire people for. There are also civil courts and a law that works in this country. Avoid being dragged into one for firing people for being sick for a day.

    Pros

    The salary is pretty decent.

    Cons

    Very cut throat organization
    Kiss butt and you'll advance
    Sneaky and mischievous senior management
    HR reps are clueless

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get self training and consider your employees first. Don't just worry about the money made from acquisitions. Stop being so sneaky and rude when communicating with others to find out what you need to know. Also, please make sure when advancing someone to another position, give them an advance b/c of their past experience. Can't advance and HR intern to an HR manager to work more than one state when he/she is not aware of the employment laws. That's very poor taste.
