It was like pulling teeth to get anything I needed to do my job from the very start. No real communication from bosses.

    Pros

Flexible hours, good peers and friendly environment in other departments than yours.

    Cons

Lack of care of employees or contractors, not well managed departments, over-critical and overly-sensitive.

    Advice to Management

Ditch some of the old dogs in the company that act like their way is the only way to do business. Give incentive for people to want to stay, especially contractors.

    Pros

Co-workers pre-2014. Teamwork, partnership, and common goals were clear before 2014. Many new projects and opportunities to grown. Post March 2014 the company (culture, products, teams) has been in a downward spiral.

    Cons

There has been a shift in the direction of Dealertrack since the acquisition of Dealer.com. Each company has very different cultures, and there have been significant clashes in many departments. Technology, Marketing, and Human Resources departments now report to Dealer.com leadership. Unfortunately the Dealer.com team lack experience in leadership and in professionalism. Everyday there's another story shared about the level of disrespect and disregard by Dealer.com employees. Frustration and anger is prevalent in many Dealertrack offices. All attempts to resolve issues have been ignored. Dealer.com is full steam ahead without regard or apparent awareness of the mess they're creating. Key Dealertrack managers with vast experience have either left already or are in the interview process. The voice of employees is ignored by the executive team.

    Advice to Management

Executive Team - You've turned your back on Team Members and they are leaving. Take the time to find out why and do something about it. Listen more. The evidence is in front of you. In addition, you've been selling off your stock and it's driving the stock price down. It's as if you're jumping ship too.

    Pros

Stale competition and the core transaction business keep the company profitable. Execs do understand the auto business.

    Cons

Poor Executive team that is out of touch with most. General Managers create silos of operation because they run discrete P&Ls. Company is ineffective at creative synergies among it's business ops. Company buys businesses and shuts them down, sending a poor message internally and externally. Key staff can disrupt their lives and move at the request of the company, but do not get any measure of appropriate return back. Going from one office to the next is like going from one company to another. There are different ways of doing things, different cultures, no communications, collaboration or cooperation among business units or offices, and the General Managers like it that way since they have control over their own kingdom.

    Advice to Management

Get a decent CIO and get a good COO. Remove the GM and silod P&L structure. Keep hoping that the competition remains stagnant. Stop reorganizing and create a vision for the company that employees can buy into.

    Pros

If you're in a NON threatening position, they LOVE you, if however, the senior leadership (anyone Sr. Director or above), and you're not a YES person, they will chew you up and get rid you faster then they hired you.

    Cons

The Leadership team is STUCK .... They don't accept new ideas (unless it's theirs), and they don't like people that DON'T agree with them.

    Advice to Management

RETIRE!! Hire new blood. The management at DealerTrack is as stale - Very reminiscent of our Congress, Senate etc..

    Pros

The occasional lunch that is bought for the employees, some of their incentives are nice if you're able to reach their goal demands.

    Cons

Management. HR has no control over any of the supervisors or managers. The managers are allowed to pick favorites and give those favorites the best leads and job positions/promotions while threatening termination of the "lesser" employees for lack of trying hard even though they are never given a chance due to the unfair biased workplace.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Stop picking favorites. Several times I have went to HR about managerial problems where I am being verbally assaulted in front of my coworkers using vulgar language and nothing about it was done other than me being placed on a performance improvement plan because I was "failing" as an employee. Pretty easy to do when you're told every day how horrible you are at your job.

    Cons

Business growing too fast and technology teams struggle to transform and deliver.

    Advice to Management

Invest in quality people with right mindset and good delivery records.
Get rid of under performers, money burners, cry babies and blamers.
Keep delivery on track the #1 target.

    Pros

The employees and low level management were great to work with. The work was rewarding except for the demands of problematic software defects. The experience and knowledge to be gained is valuable and useful. The goals and direction of the company were exciting and aggressive.

    Cons

I was rather disappointed that employee work/life needs seemed to be minimized over maximizing productivity and output. This was more of a culture change after the buyout and because of it much of the innovation and creative spirit were suppressed by metrics that were not equally applicable to all. The tools for measuring progress were not always clearly communicated despite what was said and there was always a lot of pressure to meet expectations that were not always controllable. I have worked in other growth companies and understand the need for change and progress but the elevated demands and stress levels at dt diminished the enjoyment of software engineering for me and I would not recommend it to most of my associates in the industry.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and consider why it may be difficult to attract and retain talented people.

    Pros

Other than making a small group of colleages who became friends, there were amost no Pros!

    Cons

    1. The company has 4 different change management systems. Different departments use their own preferred change management systems. Support staff who did the actual production got blindsighted on production changes all the time.

    2. The management staff of the development team are trouble enablers. They encourage their staff to exclude DBAs on database designs and developed problematic application codes in production. They did not take responsibilities for their lousy work, but blamed on the DBAs. They played the blame game perfectly and always got away with it. Of course, they got rewarded with promotions!

    3. The management staff and QA analysts of the testing are also trouble makers. They did ask their DBAs to do low value work such as loading, updating and deleting data or running meaningless queries. Their quality of their so-called performance testing is very limited to unit and integrated testing level.

    4. Too many middle management who excels in micromanagement.

    5. High unpaid overtime all the time. Management rarely offered comp days. They burned people out and replaced them.

    6. Intra-team and inter-team bullying happen from time to time. Staff from their Dallas office could just dump work on their overwhelmed and overworked teammates in New York office and did not even care.

    Advice to Management

Cut back your wasteful promotion on your trouble enablers above and pay close attention to the quality of work they deliver. They are the one to be blamed, not awarded!

    Pros

DealerTrack has attracted some extremely good employees - They've also LOST a significant amount of these GOOD employees, due to the "work horse" style and burn out factor... This is the worst company to work for.

    Cons

Senior management is micro managerial and often de motivational. My advice here is to accept it and move on.

Mediocre pay and small increases. Untenable work hours/expectation (consistently 60+/week). No respect for your personal time (you are expected to respond even when off duty), or needs (Dr/DDS appt, sick time, family, community service/volunteer work. etc). The company touts work/life balance but runs you 60+ hours a week, every week. Company is on an acquisition tear.

The current management system is an antique of the last century. Lots of distrust between employees (oh, excuse me "team members") and management for good reason. They heap piles and piles of work on your stressed out shoulders then make you participate in wellness programs they don't give you time to do or get financially penalized. Managers don't even know how to manage.

Terrible insurance plan and pay was not proportionate to the work. Overall Benefits below average compared to other companies of similar size in the Greater New York Area

Bottom line is Low pay, micro managers, difficult managers, they don't value their employees.

    Advice to Management

    None..They don't care anyway

    Pros

Some of the employees are nice and dress is fairly casual which can be nice on a stressful day. Lots of parking.

    Cons

The training is awful! You sit with someone who does nothing but complain about having to train you. Then they do there work ( don't explain anything to you) & then ask if you got it. What?! Then she / he talks down to you as if she / he's better when clearly she / he has no ambition because she's still there. Pay is less than other call centers.

    Advice to Management

Get a person to train that wants to & don't assume because she or he says they are training you that they are. Your not going to hang onto anyone long term if you don't take it seriously. Also some of you treat the call center reps like your better, umm we all put pants on the same way. Also I was told that they don't expect you to get it all in 3 weeks but the other person I was trained or NOT trained with was let go because she didn't get it in 3 weeks.
