What they don't pay you in money, they pay you in experience and learning.

    Store Manager (Former Employee)

ProsI have an excellent team that makes coming to work enjoyable. My DM is very supportive and helpful. The work is challenging so it really pushes you to learn and become a better manager. Plenty of PTO days.

ConsThe pay is not competitive at all, and they have no interest in being competitive. I had a member of executive management tell me that I need to hire managers that no one else wants so that they will take the pay rate we offer. Deb wants "hungry people" as she put it. They are so worried about cutting payroll costs (pay rate and budget hours) they do so at the cost of losing sales. SM has to work 60 hours a week just to maintain the store because the budget is ridiculous. Yet when executive management visits my store, they complain that enough people aren't scheduled to cater to customers.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in a proper workforce and you will get the money back tenfold in sales. Stop treating your employees like garbage. If the company treated employees right and was able to retain them, they wouldn't spend so much precious payroll training new employees. This company is extremely disorganized. Figure out a system and stick to it. You are all wasting your employees time by making bad decisions. And the Store Managers are the ones that have to suffer because they need to put in all the extra hours to fix your mistakes.

    very very stressful!

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
    Akron, OH

Prosas a full time assistant manager, the pay is decent, the discount is good 40%.

Consnegative work environment, constant promo changes-- sometimes in the middle of the day! tons of tasking not enough customer service, not enough hours for coverage-- heavy shrink... at my store, we went through two sets of management and then the new manager walked out, also had our regional manager quit and our new district manager rarely showed up... she didnt care about what was happening in our store. constant gossip, lies, backstabbing, and when you did tell her she just said that we all needed to learn how to "play nice" together. this was the worst job i have ever had in my life.. i was so stressed on a daily basis. my "new" manager actually told me that yes, we need to help customers, but shipment is more important. this company is horrible.. dont walk away... RUN!!!!! i'm very serious.

Advice to Senior Managementwhen you have constant strife in a store and someone is coming to you honestly and truly caring and asking for help.. maybe you should listen? you say that customers come first but with 2 person coverage (and i personally had one person coverage for up to 6 hours at a time) and a big store in a mall where there is high shrink, how can you really have eyes everywhere and do everything? listen to your employees, not just the dm who is never there. and if you say you care, actually mean it. thats a tiny start.

Good at first but then went downhill.. Quickly

    Assistant Manager (Current Employee)

ProsDiscount is great but the staff is even more fun to work with. Some customers are good, depends on the clientele that's being brought in. Product is cute, fun and trendy.

ConsDistrict and regional managers can be cruel and nasty. Basically said no one was able for a raise after lowering shrink substantially. Last minute changes especially to floor sets. Gossip central.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet it together or you will lose employees quicker then they can be replenished.

    Hectic stressful chaotic!

    Assistant Manager (Current Employee)

ProsPeople whom you work with. Everyone strives to do their best and wants to reach goals or standards set.

ConsConstantc change in standards, day to day. What is ok on one dm visit will not ok by another. No consistency. No rhyme or reason for rules or visual standards or changes to them. Upper management not only is on different pages but in different books. Benifits are costly. Constant schedule changes because of last minute floor changes or markdowns or other random non-customer service oriented activities.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure it out before the ship sinks, we all know its flooded on the lower level. You have many passionate ememployees, show appreciation for long term ones. Most of what your trying to change or introduce has been done before.

    Stay Away

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood discounts. Cute clothes and pretty free range with the dress code.

ConsTerrible to work for, they don't care about their employees, the clothes are poorly made, the higher level management (DM) sucks and was rude and mean to all her employees. It was awful everyone hated it there.

Advice to Senior Managementget a new district manager!

    A confused company

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)

    ProsThe discount is really good

ConsThe high expectations they put on the management team to drive sales but also pile on the task and dont give you the hours to get it done!

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company need to show more support to the stores. They need to be more consistant in the company look between stores. Some stores are working with minimal supplies to execute the floorsets they come up with. Then they dont get any kind of training...

ProsGood discount, fun atmosphere once you get the right staff

ConsRegional manager was the most unprofessional person I have ever met in my life!!! If she doesnt like the way you look she doesn't want you working for deb...no work/life balance....shoplifting in that company is horrible they give you no security devices to help you....if your shrink comes back bad they threaten your job....

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to get more professional people to be leaders

The bad out weighs the good

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsGained just enough experience to move on to something better.

ConsMorale is low. Unless your someone's pet or willing to step on people, there is no room for growth. The atmosphere in the company headquarters breaks you down mentally while the hours break your down physically. Prepare for lack of respect and dealing with caddy women like you did back in high school.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to recognize the hard workers who are truly there to do their work and keep hold of them. A simple "thank you" or "you are doing a good job" will go a long way but those words are scarcely heard. The pay that is handed out in the company is far below industry standards. Show ALL of your employees respect.

Horrible company to work for, Even worse environment to work in.

    Store Manager (Current Employee)

    ProsThe employee discount is decent.

    ConsHR/Payroll;
Turnover rate company wide is is very high. Employees are not valued and are treated as "dime a dozen". Expected floor coverage vs. payroll given is unrealistic on the weekdays. You receive emails from DM scolding you for not using all of your payroll one week (when it is not needed) and doing the same when you go 1hr over when needed.

You do not receive additional support from upper management to ensure you staff your store successfully during a tough time.
Getting an open position posted is very difficult.

RM's/DM's are only for the company for a few years and then move on to something better.
DM's gossip to everyone who will listen. i.e. who stole what, who is being investigated, who she is trying to fire.

    Upper Management;
DM is not involved at store level and threatens Store Management jobs when DM is under "hot water". Managers are not allowed to take vacation time around any holiday but corp. office and RM/DM's are off every Holiday. DM's and RM's are so extremely tough to speak to. I have personally overheard my DM take personal phone calls on her company phone and ignore calls from stores to talk about "dinner and drinks later?".

I don't see this company standing in 2 years. They should have used the "revise" to get their priorities straight instead of opening new stores that are just going to close next year.

Personally, working for this company was the worst decision I have made.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe new CEO needs to take a closer look at the DM's workload and how they contribute to their team. Sending job threatening emails and text messages are unprofessional and in no way will motivate staff/management, this causes an immediate shut down.
Value your employees you currently have. Especially those who stuck it out during bankruptcy. Make frequent pop-ins to ensure your RM's/DM's and stores are performing and providing "Positive Feedback".
Another big tip; Take care of your stores appearance. When a store looks like it is closing because of poor upkeep it will lose business for good.
