Good starting place - not for permanent career

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)

ProsAwesome discount on merchandise and ability to learn all aspects of retail management. Time off policies were very flexible.

ConsPoor upper management. HORRIBLE pay. Basically anywhere else you work as an assistant manager you will be paid more.

It was an Okay place to work.

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)

ProsThe discounts and laid back work clothing were the only pros that I liked.

ConsThe people are drama, and I was always trying to find something to do once it was done I stood around for the rest of my shift. This is not what I wanted.

It made me realize just how challenging working the sales floor can be.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Langhorne, PA

ProsI worked with some great people and I really enjoyed getting to help our customers, while doing a variety of other tasks, such as organizing the clothing racks, re-stocking inventory, and placing mark-downs.

ConsThe company itself is not very well organized in how it's run and as a sales associate, the hours are horrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind ways to teach employees how to do better on the sales floor and increase sales. Also as a sales associate, it's difficult to get a promotion and salary raise, and even when a salary raise is given it isn't by very much, so if a higher salary and more room for a promotion could be given to sales associates that would be great.

Deb Shops: Where Having a Great Day Comes First and Organization Comes Last

Stockroom Manager (Current Employee) Wilmington, DE

ProsThe best reasons to work at Deb Shops is to earn an income and take advantage of the employee discount.

ConsSome of the challenges of working at Debs is maintaining organization of the merchandise and catching criminals in the act of stealing.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to upper management is to become better acquainted with their lower management team. I also advise that the upper management personnel consider installing security devices to offer their customers and staff a higher level of protection while working or shopping at the Wilmington store. Finally, I believe upper management would benefit by investing in maintenance and equipment to display an appearance of quality for customers and provide a better work environment for employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Deb has been going through some major operational changes since october of 2013 since the new CEO has taken over.

    Store Manager (Current Employee)

ProsIt can be fun and challenging at times, it sells a great product to a great customer base

ConsThe current operational (promos, visuals, markdowns, payroll budget) changes are sometimes poorly planned so you end up working almost 50 hours while you are salaried which takes away from your personal life. There is a lack of DM longevity. I have worked for the company for almost 3 years and only had a DM for 1 year of that.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe prepared to work at least a min of 44 hours up to 70 in order to get all the operational tasks done in a week.

    Everyone is a suspect

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Niles, OH

ProsThe management is great, the discount is great, and the clothes are a good value.

ConsThe shoplifting problem is ridiculous. Everyone at my workplace got fired because we had such a huge shoplifting problem, and I never stole a thing.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to promote job safety for the employees, even if they're just retail associates. I could have been management someday.
