Deb has been going through some major operational changes since october of 2013 since the new CEO has taken over.

Store Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Deb Shops full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt can be fun and challenging at times, it sells a great product to a great customer base

ConsThe current operational (promos, visuals, markdowns, payroll budget) changes are sometimes poorly planned so you end up working almost 50 hours while you are salaried which takes away from your personal life. There is a lack of DM longevity. I have worked for the company for almost 3 years and only had a DM for 1 year of that.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe prepared to work at least a min of 44 hours up to 70 in order to get all the operational tasks done in a week.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Everyone is a suspect

ProsThe management is great, the discount is great, and the clothes are a good value.

ConsThe shoplifting problem is ridiculous. Everyone at my workplace got fired because we had such a huge shoplifting problem, and I never stole a thing.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to promote job safety for the employees, even if they're just retail associates. I could have been management someday.

Oh so undecided and very micromanaged, but I have fun every day and it's a good company to work for.

ProsYour environment is always diverse as far as customers and sometimes staff.

Build great friendships, you get paid every week on Fridays; have the opportunity for direct deposit.

You have the opportunity for growth and moving up; however it sometimes takes too long for the opportunity part to occur. In other words, you’re doing the work without the pay or promotion.

Manager will work with your school schedule if it reasonable.

40 % employee discount.

ConsPay sucks; there is a cap on assistant manager’s salary. You will make no more than 10.50 an hour. So if you looking for more look somewhere else.

Your education doesn’t matter. If you have a degree you may be more interested in applying at Maurice, Hollister, target, American eagle or even the buckle. Don’t waste your education here getting stressed out with crappy pay. Invest your future in another retailer that will give to the proper training and a good salary plus benefits.

You have to work every Saturday no exception unless you use a vacation day or a personal day.
District manager is rude to sale associated and some store level managers.

Overall customers don’t respect the staff because store policies are not strict and are not enforced by corporate the ones who created the Policies.

You deal with a very hustle environment on frequent bases. Customers are aggressive and don’t be surprised if they threaten you or get in your face. Security will be your best friend!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement at Deb change frequently. However, I have worked with Assistant managers who were great at their job as well as manager who were not. You get the best of both worlds from any employer. I believe that corporate needs to get it together when communicating to management at the store level. Many high volume stores don’t have time to set the same promo’s five times thru-out the day because corporate can’t get it together. The store manager at this location is great, she is the best manager I have ever worked for.
