I worked at Dell as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

They are good about teaching you what to do and then giving you the freedom to do your own work. They have also created lots of programs for interns so you get to know the people you are working with. i really enjoyed working at Dell last summer and would definitely do it again!

    Cons

The only real con that i took away from the experience was that interns were assigned to a certain department like marketing or finance and once we were assigned we were locked into those roles

I have been working at Dell full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    -Autonomy
    -Competitive pay and benefits
-lots of paid holidays throughout the year
    -work life balance
-ability to develop as much as you want, the sky is the limit.

    Cons

    - our clients IT team is very lazy. Government employees generally do not work with a fire under their butt.

    - our team is very old fashioned and are too settled in their ways to embrace better and newer ways of doing things.

    - We need an actual budget to purchase IT equipment that will help us do our jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In a field that is as fast paced as IT you need to hire people who can manage and embrace change and allow it to improve current processes (the basis of CI). Change is inevitable, change happens regardless of if you want it to stop or not. If you have a bunch of old foggies around that like to do things "the way we've always done it" or that will never let go of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mindset, we will never have progress. Change will come (because you cant stop change) and it will always end up hurting us because we're resistant to it.

Innovation and progress requires employees that can work with change and use it to catalyze positive change.

Culture- friendly and fun. Your coworkers and managers are going to be your friends here
Education- You will learn every day

I have been working at Dell as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

You think this should more obvious to all (it wasn't to me at first) but you HAVE TO MEET YOUR DEADLINES. Honestly, that is all that they care about. They don't care about a new sexy way of doing things. Just put your head down and bust through. If you gotta do something manually, then friggin' do it.

    Cons

As remote, communication was a huge obstacle. So being available (IM, texting, etc.) helps out a lot.
