I have been working at Deloitte full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

-chill life if you get a useless project but wont add to your learning
    - people say its good if you want to have an MBA . But i personally think wasting your time doing all crappy work is not justified , though the outerworld has a very great immpression about deloitte but trust me you will know the actuality from day1 .

    Cons

    - Not so many joinees from top engineering colleges
    - If u get stuck in bad project they are going to make you work like hell
    - Most of the experience guys have no technical knowledge in short incompetent seniors
    - No learning
    - You will like the pay if u get a project where you dont have to work much but you will regret if you happen to work for a project which makes u work for 10 or more than 10 hours+ weekends as well
    - For a purely technical guy this company is a strict no no
    - Low salary hikes
    - Very less projects that company have
    - unrealistic project deadlines

Just have a lot to say about deloitte , hope you understand what I meant

    Pros

This is the one and only pro i must admit.

Their pay is better than other big service based companies, that's all.

    Cons

ooh my god where do i start....

    1. Work life balance - None, you have to make heavy sacrifices in your personal life. it can feel worse if you are married and want to spend time with your family on weekends. Bachelors forget it, you are reminded that you are one and dont have a life.
    2. Work place politics - Heavy, you cannot grow or even survive if you aren't sucking upto your seniors.
    3. They heavily market something called as "Networking" after sometime i got the real meaning of it. It means play politics at work place, make sure you do as asked by your Ms, SMs and PPDs even if its not doable or possible. Always and always belong to atleast one group (and make sure that group has some clout or else you are nobody).
    4. Employee Appraisals - good holy heavens!! the three points should make this clear and implicit i think.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

well, all i can think of is start over guys and may be this time you have already learnt a lesson.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    1. Team Lunch/ Outing/ Party
    2. Laptop
    3. Flexible Working hours

    Cons

    1. Technology used in various projects are some 10 year old.
    2. Your profile wont be good if you stay in this company for 2+ years.
    3. Even a 4+ year exp. person will get a documentation work.
    4. They will say that you should do 'Networking', but it is actually termed as 'Politics' / 'Buttering' . If you know buttering then join. Persons who are not buttering the higher officials will get low rating and asked to get out of the company.
    5. Avg working hours might be 14-16 hours. If you work only for 9 hours, you will get low rating.
    6. There is no transparency.
    7. No proper training will be given for freshers.
    8. No proper KT will be given when you join a project.
    9. there are lot more.. this space wont be enough.

This organisation claims to be women friendly but I was subjected to sexual harassment and forced to resign.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The global organisation has the right policies but the local leadership does not implement them.

    Cons

I was subjected to repeated sexual harassment by my colleagues. When I complained about this to the Management team I was told that I was imagining it all and they could not deal with these issues. As I refused to drop the issue I was told that if I could not with stand minor sexual advances I should leave the job. Some of the Indian Leadership tried to take the corrective action but the younger American Partner and the Senior Manger I spoke to made it very clear that if I continued to pursue the matter I should just leave. Also the American Partner, seemed to side with my harassers and no punitive measures were taken against them. In fact I was the one who was victimised and every effort was made to bully me into silence. Over all I found the atmosphere in this organisation very chauvinistic and sexist. I also observed the Senior Management objectified the women professionals and hired, rated and promoted them on the basis of whether they found them personally attractive or not. I don't think women were viewed with respect and as professionals in this company and the atmosphere was increasingly promiscuous with both men and women dressing and behaving in an inappropriate manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The organisation claimed to have a lot of progressive and politically correct policies, especially with regard to women, but the local leadership does not implement them when they choose to. The organisation supposedly had anti-harassment policies but I noticed not only in my case but in other cases as well that the women who complained were demeaned and victimised and all of them chose to leave the organisation.

Former Employee - Manager in Hyderābād (India)

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I can think of very few positives in this organisation. Although the organisation claimed to be very people friendly, highly progressive and women friendly, this was mostly HR propaganda but the reality was very different.

    Cons

This organisation claims to be women friendly but I was subjected to repeated sexual harassment in the last year that I worked with them. I reported these issues to Senior management but they took little cognisance of my concerns and refused to believe me and dismissed all my claims. No action was taken against the perpetrators. In fact the younger American Partner and the Senior manger I spoke to seemed to side with him and I was advised to let the issue go. Every time I brought the issue up I was told that maybe it would be best if I left the organisation. This despite the fact that the firm has so called anti harassment policies. The message I was given was that if I was not willing to suffer these sexual advances it would be better for me to leave. Also overall the culture was extremely sexist, chauvinistic and promiscuous. Women in the organisation were not treated as professionals, and were evaluated and promoted on the basis of how attractive the Senior Management found them. Also mine was not an isolated incident - there were cases of harassment in the past where the women were victimised by the Senior American Management and bullied into silence. Ultimately I did not find it safe to work in this organisation and also because I would not drop the issues of harassment I had been subjected to I was asked to leave, which is illegal. Additionally the American senior Management were highly arrogant and racist and there was clear discrimination in how Americans and Non-Americans were treated in the organisation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please implement your so called policies or do not make claims to have them. You have a lot of politically correct policies but none of these are followed in reality. Also please evaluate women on the basis of their professional competence and do not objectify women in the workplace.

    Pros

    Brand Value
    Good Pay
    Great teams to work with!!

    Cons

    1. Work - Life balance will go for a toss!!!
2 .Deloitte Consulting is divided into service lines, and there is the pathetic service line named AMS, which takes care of SUPPORTing applications.
    3. Not worthy for a fresher if he/she is very much keen on learning.
    4. Networking??? - Too much of buttering!!!
    5. Promotion - Unless you are visibility is more in front of management, its difficult to get promoted.
    6. Lacks innovation

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Well at least in India they pay better than most of the other companies

    Cons

This is the only firm that I know of (I have only worked in one so far) where your actual client work is not given any importance whatsoever. Mediocrity is encouraged and applauded at every step of the way. This is not the firm to join if you want to work hard.

The policies for review are heavily biased towards PRD (Firm activities, proposals etc). Someone with a 120% utilization and 40 hours of PRD will be rated below someone who has 80% utilization and 100 hours of PRD. This fact is amazing in itself because the revenue is generated from doing actual Client work and not from PRD. Another disadvantage of this policy is that mediocre workers who are not good at doing client work but good at making PowerPoint presentations get a better rating than someone who works hard.

Apart from the ratings system, the year end hikes that you get are a joke. A good rating does not mean that you will get a good hike, there is no transparency in the system. As an example someone who gets a 1 rating may get a lower hike than someone with a 2 rating simply because the HR is highly incompetent. The case above is based on a real life incident where 2 guys started working at the same time after joining from the same college in the same service line, yet the guy with the lower rating got a better increment, needless to say the other guy left the firm.

Another funny thing is the salary discussion system, if you go and argue about the salary that you get, there is no resolution provided by them. If you say that your salary increment was too low they will simply answer that everyone got the same. If you compare someone's salary then it quickly becomes a ethical issue which is then escalated. So irrespective of what you do the salary discussion system was made to not work.

The overall perception that Deloitte is a friendly place which values Work-Life balance is a myth. You are expected to put in extra hours every single day and 99% of the times you won't even be compensated for that except that it will show up as higher utilization during your year end review. The same utilization will not guarantee a good rating though. Overall I think they should start valuing employees for the work they do rather than these other activities which don't really help anyone.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some of the peers are good to work with .
Compensation is good compared to other similar firms.
    Good office environment .
    Travel facility is good .

    Cons

Projects are of pathetic quality .
There are no quality projects in this firms.
I would never recommend this firm for laterals as this company would definitely kill your career.
If you are an experienced integration resource /SOA consultant /WPS/TIBCO/WMB resource ,Please do not join this company and ruin your technical skills.
Most projects in systems integration /SOA are of very very pathetic quality where you will be doing excel sheet/log check and call center kind of job most of the time .
I would never recommend this company for a techie who aspire to become an architect /Sr architect .
With out firm hours and networking ,its hard to get promotion here .
You will find some folks who does not do any work or does not have basic technical knowledge getting promoted due to regional politics and buttering .
Most of the senior folks here lack basic knowledge about technical aspects .
There is no center of excellence set up here for any kind of technology and because of which they are finding it hard to win new projects .
Even though you may be a talented integration /soa /java consultant , you may be deployed to a .net /testing project ,due to lack of projects in the company, which would eventually kill or end your technical career .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do promote deserving resources rather than promoting people who does not know the basics aspects of technology consulting.
Try to reduce the emphasis on firm initiatives and unnecessary training programs.
Please do not kill careers .
