I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, not as competitive than McKinsey, but reasonable compared to the other Big Four competitors. Great benefits. Attracts driven people.

    Cons

Not much flexibility to migrate between practices. Once you're signed onto technology (vs. strategy or human capital) or a particular practice area (e.g. health care vs. energy etc.), it's a cumbersome process to migrate. You have to work hard to network internally to get new work. Expects long hours while on client site, especially if you don't have a good project manager.

    Pros

    Cons

work/life balance they equip you with the best technology so you can be contacted at any time of the day and you are contacted. they hire the best but then you have to work tirelessly to get a higher than average rating even though you were hired because you are exceptional....
get great amount of time off but no time to take it!

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You can go in with minimal industry knowledge, and they will train you as long as you have the right personality and mindset. Be willing to learn and remain involved and they will help you reach success.

    Cons

Long hours and traveling. You will find yourself working much more than 9-5, and traveling more than the advertised 20-50%.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Quality of co-workers, access to professional development, flexibility, benefits

    Cons

Probably lower paid than other consulting competitors, but worth it for the pros

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some people should be promoted ahead of their "cycle" and aren't without good reason.

Some people are really underpaid and you are unresponsive and lose good people. Why not just bump them up?

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Deloitte is the world's largest professional services firm - so it literally does a bit of everything, with a base of clients that spans every industry and geography. Promotion is straightforward and transparent; those willing to work hard (and smart) can move ahead.

    Cons

Compensation is a serious issue for staff here; despite being highly profitable the firm underpays its employees relative to competitors. Churn is fairly commonplace and most junior staff don't see a reason to stay for more than 2-4 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's a focus on Deloitte's "Big Firm, Small Feel" efforts. Make it real and not just a catchy headline.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The firm's overall total rewards package is excellent - largely due to the wide range of locations and options provided to practitioners. The health benefits are also great. On a client level, there are a lot of opportunities and options for different types of work (at least in the Federal sector).

    Cons

The 401(k) may be one of the worst matching programs I've seen in the past. Senior leadership is beginning to notice the horrible attrition rate which is likely due to poor work-life balance and the inability to take even half of the PTO that the company provides each year. As an example, I'm likely going to lose three weeks of PTO come December 31st. Financial compensation is touted as 'rewarding to top performers,' but this last year individuals that did no extra work received very similar raises to what was received for the best rating in the firm (can't speak for everyone in this situation though as it may have been singular to my role and function).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are initiatives out there to better work-life balance, but they don't seem to be going anywhere. Take a stand and do something instead of putting on a show of doing something - most practitioners can tell the difference. Also, enhancing your 401(k), instead of knocking the matching percent, would be a good benefit to increase.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This is a huge company with their hands in quite a few technologies.

    Cons

If you don't know the right people, there is extremely limited mobility within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rely less on networking, and more on merit.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

For the most part, the people at this firm are amazing. It's a great feeling to work with people that are on par with you intellectually. Everyone who works here is motivating and stimulating and outgoing and most of the time more than willing to help. This is a huge firm with endless opportunities so while it's easy to get stuck or trapped on one project or in one area, the opportunities do exist for changing your entire career without ever leaving the firm if you're willing to work hard enough for it. AWESOME PTO benefits - starting at 5 weeks straight from campus.

    Cons

Difficult to balance your time with such high expectations - sometimes feels like having two jobs when you need to deliver for your client as well as contribute back to Deloitte through business development and people and eminence contributions. Sometimes the "own your own career" motto can be feel untrue when the direction you want to go doesn't align with the direction the firm needs you to head in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider spending more time properly aligning incoming hires to areas aligned with their existing skill sets and interests/passions to prevent apathetic feelings towards project work and to increase employee retention.
