Former Employee – worked at Detroit Diesel as an intern for less than a year
Pros – -Awesome pay (I got $12/hr as a summer worker at the plant, interns and full time workers get above average pay too)
-Fun environment with nice co-workers
Cons – -The efficiency of work on the line could be improved if there was some more communication.
-Difficult to get ideas through
Advice to Senior Management – Do what you do
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Detroit Diesel full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Stable company with good benefits. Being part of Daimler brings both positives and negative
Cons – Ever changing compliance related mandates has stripped decision making abilities away from mid-level managers. Top level executives have to approve even the smallest expenditure - i.e. executive VP approval needed to purchase pizza for my team as recognition for a completed project, etc...
Advice to Senior Management – Let your managers do some managing.

Pros – The work is very fast-paced so everyday you have learning opportunities. As long as you come up with a solution they let you know to further your analysis and if you can back up your analysis appropriately, your study finds support.
Cons – Because of the acquisiton by Daimler there are still some problems about the integration of the companies so sometime you face problems about how the processes are strcutured. However, this is a laerning opportunity as well if you like challenges.
Advice to Senior Management – I think overall they are doing a good job. Especially managament level employees seem like they like what they are doing.

Former Employee – worked at Detroit Diesel
Pros – The pay was great, the people were so friendly. My favorite part about interning at this company is that you are not just another intern, but really a valuable asset to the company. I was given project and opportunities that most interns don't get the opportunity to do.
Cons – Detroit Diesel is a great place to work, the only problem is that they are really hurting right now because of the economy (although things are looking better). The only other con I can give is that the company is owned by a german company, so if you want to succeed in your company, you will need to go to Germany and your boss might be German
Advice to Senior Management – I was very impressed by the senior level management, although there are a few Germans in upper management that aren't as great.

Pros – You can certainly learn as much as you want. Pay/Benni's is decent...all the way around. Union and Salary. You have a wealthy committed company that rules you. It's currently still in the U.S. Good luck getting fired...it doesn't happen but desperately needs to. You can stop trying so hard to move up the ladder unless your a German citizen. (less stress??) Should be a good product if it can be built right.
Cons – Union leadership needs to drop the "old school" mentality or it will be dealt with abruptly.... geographically speaking. Daimler management needs to drop the "modern german" mentality or it will be dealt with abruptly.....patriotically/economically/socially...speaking. They need to start promoting/hiring some americans through the ranks or suffer no one wanting to work there at all from the U.S. So much waste...bureauocracy is ridiculously thick and uneeded. They'll spend twice an amount to save half as much and will do it over and over.
Advice to Senior Management – It can be found in the pro's and cons...... except for this..... Do not hire one more outside consulting company and drop all your internal efficiency programs...DCPS. Incredible waste of money. It's a crutch/bandaid/poor substitute for what you already pay your supervisors, managers and directors to do already. Seriously...they dont seem to be interested in supervising, managing or directing anything anymore....they attend wasteful meetings all day away from their core jobs, play with thier company issued blackberries and avoid any and all neccessary confrontation or tough decisions. If they can't handle it.....you've hired the wrong people...again.

Current Employee – been working at Detroit Diesel
Pros – Very good benefits
Wages very good for hourly, slightly above avg for salary
Cons – Very poor management once Daimler took control.
Advice to Senior Management – Daimler mngmt, don't make Detroit Diesel do everything like Daimler, it is not always the best way.

Current Employee – been working at Detroit Diesel
Pros – It is a company where you'll know and be known by all, including the top dog. If you perform you'll be rewarded.
Cons – If you don't perform may not be rewarded if the company as a whole is not doing well. Automotive has a 2% profit margin. In heavy duty it can be around 20%. This works in both directions.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to the complaints. Don't be afraid of admitting your mistakes and correcting them. If promoting someone to a position of incompetence occurs don't be afraid to fix the situation by demoting them back to where they came from.

Current Employee – been working at Detroit Diesel
Pros – Awesome place tow ork, friendly staff, managment is very fair and courtious, flexable, grnerous health care and 401k options.
Cons – no pr Incentives!, under achivers and low peforming employees not made aware of such just too relaxed on work ethic.
Advice to Senior Management – Bring PR based raises or bonuses, Weed out the workers who do not perform so those who do feel there efforts are worth while.
