I have been working at Devon Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall an amazing company that genuinely tries to keep their employees happy, motivated and content with good R&R programs. Employees are encouraged to eat healthy and work out at the fitness facilities and friendly atmosphere all around.

    Cons

IT is an exception and treated as a step-child.contractors have more job security than full time employees after the accenture-devon partnership.there is a hint of xenophobia towards foreigners, a lot of brown nosing and old school politics where you have these group of people who don't mingle with/associate with others who are not part of their "inner circle", its funny because these are the people who first jump ship to continental resources at the drop of a hat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please value your employees and ya'll need to ensure that HR is not a joke but has control within IT to affirm everyone is being treated equally and fairly by EOE laws. I have seen some good hard working people being booted at Christmas season with no explanation/warning when a lot of slackers having managed to hang around for years without adding any value.

I have been working at Devon Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable industry with a decent pay. Training is frequent, Devon maintains its growth very well

    Cons

constantly changing policies and procedures for satellite office staff. Drama politics excluding hard workers from recognition in offices outside of Oklahoma. Promotions not forthcoming for ones who excel and work harder with higher efficiency

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More frequent proof on paper requirements from managers in offices outside of Oklahoma or directly responsible for those offices showing recognition of employees rather than simple word-of mouth

    Pros

    Very good salary and benefits.

    Cons

The company is lost and doesn't have a clear direction.Reorgs too often without a purpose in mind. Too much pomp and pageantry in the rotunda.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold Sr. Managers and up accountable. Come down off of the 47th floor everyone in a while.

I have been working at Devon Energy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The salary and benefits are very competitive. The building in OKC has lots of nice amenities. Commuting in Oklahoma City is very easy. Devon Energy is one of the most respected employers in the Oklahoma City area.

    Cons

There seems to be a lack of corporate direction. Also the workplace is very impersonal. I find it odd that no one talks about their vacations or holidays or families. My experienced coworkers are professional but not particularly friendly. If you relocate to OKC from elsewhere, expect to have a hard time making personal connections.

I worked at Devon Energy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Family oriented company culture
Great pay, benefits, bonuses, perks (new tower restaurant, gym, etc)

    Cons

Not as global as some other energy companies (limited to North America)
Not as fast moving opportunities for advancement (most employees see this company as a lifetime employer and there is not as much motivation up the career ladder)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To attract and keep talented candidates, may need to be a bit more proactive in strategy and execution

    Pros

Family and female friendly. For family oriented people, it is a great environment to retire in.

    Cons

Little room for growth. There is very little room for growth, with little or no mentor ship to prepare the next generation of leaders.

I have been working at Devon Energy

    Pros

great benefits, (mostly) good people to work with
    decent salary
    family oriented
    on-site workout facility
lots of extras for employees (i.e. concert tickets, tickets to sporting events, company discounts)

    Cons

no room for advancement in my department
department manager doesn't seem to know how to manage people - could use some management skills training.
    gossip is ignored by management
complaints don't seem to be taken seriously by HR or local manager

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

make manager training mandatory for supervisors over departments and take complaints about harassment more seriously without having to go above manager's head.

I have been working at Devon Energy

    Pros

    Company is solid...excellent local reputation.
    Excellent Benefits.
Larry Nichols and John Richels are hugely inspirational.

    Cons

    Onboarding is non-existent.
Feel like I am in a vacuum...not much of a team atmosphere.
    Expectations are totally unrealistic.
We automatically bend over for the business, which is not always the best thing to do.
Some senior leaders do not know how to lead people, but might be great bean counters or project managers. People leadership needs a wholly different approach.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a plan and don't be afraid to lead.
