    Pros

great benefits, beautiful building, best technology, well-defined roles, every other Friday off, great health insurance, two onsite gyms, onsite doctor office just for employees, good community involvement,

    Cons

big variances in salaries for same positions. poor leadership by middle management, lower salaries than comparable companies, little room for advancement in some areas.

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits, promotes volunteerism, perks such as a well-run fitness center, free tickets to Thunder games, etc., executive management has integrity; excellent exploration and production company, increasing production dramatically with efficiencies; good management decisions with acquisitions and divestitures

    Cons

IT constantly reorganizes and never settles down; working in IT, you're on call during vacation in most cases; little investment in meaningful training; IT culture of fear due to frequent reorgs and leadership changes/shuffling; changes to IT processes without receiving enough input from the individual contributors; IT strategy is shifting and unclear

    Advice to Management

Refrain from modeling IT services after the big consulting firms; value your people more; resolve the IT culture of fear by establishing your management credibility

    Pros

Benefits, flexible Friday sched, people that have been there a while are great to work with, non-management people are excellent co-workers

    Cons

IT management is not honest about layoffs resulting in persistent culture of fear in IT, highly political, excessive IT bureaucracy frustrates workers, constantly reorganizing IT creates instability, people stay due to golden handcuffs

    Advice to Management

The company IT culture has recently evolved from a safe environment to a highly competitive, high pressure organization. This needs to change or your talent will go elsewhere. Culture and values is lip service.....do what you ask others to do.

    Pros

Great salary and benefits, active in the community

    Cons

Promotions are hard to come by unless you're a VP's favorite and there are lots of VP's with favorites. In the corporate support groups (e.g. Supply Chain) Devon hires outside people instead of developing and promoting from within. Embracing the employee and leadership attributes can hurt you, such as "challenge the status quo". People who challenge are usually out the door pretty quick. Leadership is generally not open to suggestions and feedback.

    Advice to Management

Learn what's going on in the company at the worker level, why are so many younger professionals leaving to join other OKC companies?

    Pros

Overall an amazing company that genuinely tries to keep their employees happy, motivated and content with good R&R programs. Employees are encouraged to eat healthy and work out at the fitness facilities and friendly atmosphere all around.

    Cons

IT is an exception and treated as a step-child.contractors have more job security than full time employees after the accenture-devon partnership.there is a hint of xenophobia towards foreigners, a lot of brown nosing and old school politics where you have these group of people who don't mingle with/associate with others who are not part of their "inner circle", its funny because these are the people who first jump ship to continental resources at the drop of a hat.

    Advice to Management

Please value your employees and ya'll need to ensure that HR is not a joke but has control within IT to affirm everyone is being treated equally and fairly by EOE laws. I have seen some good hard working people being booted at Christmas season with no explanation/warning when a lot of slackers having managed to hang around for years without adding any value.

    Pros

Stable industry with a decent pay. Training is frequent, Devon maintains its growth very well

    Cons

constantly changing policies and procedures for satellite office staff. Drama politics excluding hard workers from recognition in offices outside of Oklahoma. Promotions not forthcoming for ones who excel and work harder with higher efficiency

    Advice to Management

More frequent proof on paper requirements from managers in offices outside of Oklahoma or directly responsible for those offices showing recognition of employees rather than simple word-of mouth

    Pros

    Very good salary and benefits.

    Cons

The company is lost and doesn't have a clear direction.Reorgs too often without a purpose in mind. Too much pomp and pageantry in the rotunda.

    Advice to Management

Hold Sr. Managers and up accountable. Come down off of the 47th floor everyone in a while.

    Pros

The salary and benefits are very competitive. The building in OKC has lots of nice amenities. Commuting in Oklahoma City is very easy. Devon Energy is one of the most respected employers in the Oklahoma City area.

    Cons

There seems to be a lack of corporate direction. Also the workplace is very impersonal. I find it odd that no one talks about their vacations or holidays or families. My experienced coworkers are professional but not particularly friendly. If you relocate to OKC from elsewhere, expect to have a hard time making personal connections.
