I have been working at Diageo

    Pros

fun product line built on years of heritage.

    Cons

culture is one that is very focused on conflict, working 24 hours on global programs and reporting to London everyday.

    I worked at Diageo full-time

    Pros

    Thursday Happy Hours
The nice people in the cafeteria.

    Cons

Wow. I have never seen such BULLYING in the work place. Disgusting.
    Incompetent, dumb management.
    Lots of re-orgs and layoffs.
People have to double up in cube spaces.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What an unprofessional environment. How do you think you're going to get on Best Places to Work List when bullying is an every day occurance... even in HR? You know it exists, yet you turn the other way. You should be ashamed of the disrespect that goes on.

Diageo does not live by it's values. What a joke.

I worked at Diageo full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Solid remuneration. Rewards based. Great brands. Broad portfolio. Ability to move across business units and internationally. Invest in innovation and brand building.

    Cons

Re-structuring is frequent and therefore less resources available. Work-life balance is minimal. Aggressive environment - driven by the number and less focus on people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to develop consistency and less of a revolving door in leadership. Recognize the difficult culture and make adjustments to consider people and their values.

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great iconic brands - company benefits, healthcare

    Cons

The interview process - Diageo has a strong culture and moral code for a Dignity at work Policy. Personal experience has demonstrated that this is only when it really suits them. HR are very poor if I'm honest, over 4 separate occasions the delays - the lack of internal communication is overwhelming. The direction internally seems lost and there is an inner circle from networking to face fits scenario. 1 month waiting to hear anything - roles that are advertised, then pulled, then someone fills internally without consultation.
Treated from a headhunted high performer to just cut out completely and financially ruined isn't in any company values I've seen however has happened to me. I'm sure Ivan isn't aware of the condition of the business leaders he heads up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people who are running the business day to day, retain talent that you've invested in.

I worked at Diageo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, excellent culture, amazing benefits

    Cons

Leadership lack basic leadership skills. Most leadership don't have people skills and only think about their own careers. This is a major block for career progression for talented people. Too much restructuring

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking short term and don't throw money at everything because you have the liquidity. Think about the best and cost effective way of doing something. Make sure you don't get into the situation where you don't have to restructure because you thought about the problem at a tactical level. Regular Restructuring will avoid talented people joining or leaving the organisation. Wake up Ivan

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    The brands, flexy working etc

    Cons

    -HR processes are unbelievably weak
    -Leadership standards
-Employee Engagement (verified by dismal (and decreasing) internal engagement survey)
-Direction (there is a re-org every two years resulting in talent flush outs, and no one left to do the job afterwards)
    -Pay is average at best
-Actively discriminates against males (another great HR process to hire more females)
.... ugh i could go on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Doesn't matter. 99% chance they will hire another consultant to make their internal decisions (performance ambition much Diageo )

I have been working at Diageo

    Pros

Salary , great brands and heritage

    Cons

two words which are bastradised in diageo india is leadership and strategy and both are missing big time
HR dept. is non existant , they only work as hiriing managers/recruiters

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In 2009 compnay did a restructuring and asked 70 odd people to go and in 2011-12 60+ people left on their own ( July to Jan). please take out some time and do some introspection and try to find out why people are leaving

I have been working at Diageo

    Pros

    - Great Benefits and good pay
    - Company is cash flush so you also get lots of little things like frequent free lunches, food at meetings, branded items and the T&E for travel is fairly lenient.
    - Its fun to work with booze
    - Lots of young people

    Cons

    - Diageo has no R&D mindset whatsoever, yet we throw the term innovation around liberally. Forget about developing anything truly unique. Any concept more complex than changing food coloring and sugar content just stifles the children of the corn at the technical center.
    - You end up becoming very good at creating the illusion that launching yet another flavored vodka in the same tired old package is a big accomplishment.
    - Most managers were brought up through the ranks rather quickly and spend most of their time hiding their incompetence.
Managers can be viscous at times since they know they are not very marketable to other companies and will do anything to keep their jobs.
    - Diageo does not look great on a resume. Most interviewers do not know the name.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Steal some senior talent from some of the more succesful CPG companies to truly foster innvoation capability.
