    Pros

The employee discount. Not that good though.

    Cons

Managers think they own the entire company and are very degrading to part time sales associates when asked a simple question. Biast hours and not understanding at all when it comes to scheduling and requesting off. Also had no training on anything so it was learn as you go which is not how a store should be run.

    Get fired

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

A lot of the coworkers my age have been awesome to work with and many of them I consider friends now.

    Cons

Like many retail or corporate companies, you'll do all of the work while the people on top get paid more to do less. Of course, there are some exceptions where higher ups are overworked, too, but in general. If you're a hard worker you'll be paid the same as everyone else in your department or less and then given 5 times the amount of work. Just when you think that hard work will pay off towards a promotion, your management team will give you different answers to if you got the promotion. When finally told no, the reason will be that your store manager (who has had an inter-store relationship) doesn't want to use a hard worker that is dating another associate for years without it being a problem. Mind you, the promotion is not a key-holding or salaried position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Divide the work evenly. If everyone in a department gets the same pay and similar hours, don't expect one person to do everything all the time. It burns people out. While I'm busting out planograms and freight, my coworkers are picking their butts watching the Browns game on the TV's by the registers. Upon my many suggestions to divide this work before, I've never gotten anything fixed which is a big reason why I left. Also, stop making people come in at 4pm on Thanksgiving. I can tell you one thing. I bet Ed Stack is eating a nice dinner with family while all these associates have to miss out on that just so they can open a few extra hours before Black Friday. Typical corporate hypocrites all around, even in the store.

    Pros

decent discount, dress code is relaxed

    Cons

horrible training for new associates. not a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the slightest. Be prepared to left alone and left to fend for yourself by your second day without full training. Be prepared to be treated like a criminal and patted down daily.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be welcoming and supportive of new people. Take the time to train them before throwing them to the wolves. Your employees are not your children so don't treat them as such.

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

People and customers you work with. It is a great bond if you have the right core of people.

    Cons

If you are on the chopping block because of pay, age or both the Regional Vice President and District Manager contrive non real performance issues and performance you out the door. It is an opportunity for them to terminate you and get rid of tenured managers with acquired salary they deem not part of the company future. They use this tactic also when they want to eliminate age protected associates also over the age of 50.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cannot produce great customer service scores if all your management in all stores are disgruntled. Create a culture that people want to work in. Eliminate the overwhelming nature of work load. The undue pressures each day to beg for great survey scores from customers as the only measure of success is clearly misplaced.

An awful place to work. Management is so two faced and plays favorites if you're the right sex and color.

    Pros

Only good thing about working here is the employee discount.....If you're black and are a woman. you can get whatever you want.

    Cons

Too many to name. Understaffed constantly and you will NEVER get the level of customer service you want with the "More with less" type of philosophy. You want "Wows"? Get Superman to do this job. !!! Lazy employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start over with a new one...that would make a difference. Treat people....like you would like to be treated !!!!
