Great starting salaries, Terrible Business structure.

    Men's Sales Associate (Current Employee)

ProsGreat starting salary, fast paced promotions, great products and customers.

ConsDillard's Business plan is outdated and unrealistic their Idea that word of mouth and customer loyalty will keep them going the next ten years is just completely naive. Their unrealistic sales quotas and pay cuts create a hostile work environment among their employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet with the times, your not the Avon lady selling door to door, yes you can have customer loyalty that great but u have to advertise outside your own clientele basis to drum new business, you have to do sales on full price merchandise every once in awhile, and you have to be more realistic about your sales goals. I get you want to make it competitive but theirs a fine line between competitive and unobtainable.

    Excellent

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAbove average salary for executive level. Great opportunity for advancement in either your division or to Corporate office.

ConsCorporate office extremely oppressive work environment. No one is happy there. In my division lunch plans were made on the down low!

Advice to Senior ManagementTo the Dillard's family-be professional, not petty.

    Good experience!

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)

ProsTo me and for where I lived Dillard's was the best retail and paid the best money for sales associate position. I started with $10/hour and worked my way up to $12.10 in one year and a half. Every time you open the credit application you will get bonus. My manager and co workers were super nice in most of the time. Lunch break was pretty long comparing to other retail companies. Black Friday and holidays schedules weren't so crazy, the store was opened at 7am (on black friday) and never be closed later than 10 pm.( holiday season).

ConsYou have sales goal that you need to meet. If you make it you will get the raise if not you will get the pay cut ( pretty fair for me, if you work you will never get the pay cut). Since you have to sell, sometimes it can cause some dramas with you co-workers. You have to open at least 4 credits per month.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy management team was ok, my manager was super nice.

    Dillard's offered a challenge.

Assistant Area Sales Manager (Former Employee) Boise, ID

ProsWorking with a wide variety of people on a daily basis is always a pro in my book. Dealing with customers on a regular basis could go either way, it all depends on how you look at the situation.

ConsCorporate was too hands on when it came to how the store should look. Corporate should give each store the opportunity to set its merchandise to suit its customers needs. They should also allow a re-order option that managers can implement when they are low on stock that sells out on a regular basis in their areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive the managers a chance to prove themselves. Get rid of the questionnaire program for applicants. Every one of the managers; when I was working there; failed that test!

    Dillard's Distribution Center

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFair compensation, opportunities to cross train and develop business accumen; smart long term business decisions are evident

ConsOlder 20th Century distribution/warehouse view on human capital

Advice to Senior ManagementMore active functional cross training is needed; recognition that the current work force was born between 1945 & 1995 and that one size fits all HR needs to be reevaluated.

    Good Company

Retail Sales (Former Employee) Arlington, TX

ProsHourly rate is good but varies between departments. The Dillard's credit union was a great benefit.

ConsRetail hours can be awful. Being open holidays and extended hours is tough.
