I have been working at Dillard's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Dillard's is a classy company that pays well without reliance on commission

    Cons

Sales goals cause conflict within the various departments and can this cause employees to become negative

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate the bonus system in place for business managers and eliminate the expectation of "5star service" from the quotas- ringing in someone else's department is like WWIII and our sph goals relying on that is very counterproductive.

I have been working at Dillard's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can work in a good or bad environment depending on your co-workers/management. As a Beauty Advisor I get to do lots of events that keep us busy!

    Cons

Management can sometimes be negative. Negativity never ends in a positive work environment. Again depending on your staff.

I worked at Dillard's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun, Fast paced place to work! I met some really great people working for this company. Very competitive pay & benefits, also easy to move up in pay as long as you meet sales goals. ASM's for every dept. make it easy to voice opinions & concerns. The Regional & Corporate people were great and very informative and were willing to listen to our experiences & questions. Good college job as long as they have your school schedule and they adhere to it.

    Cons

Was hired as "part-time" only to be told that I was penciled in as "full-time". The sales quota was rough sometimes, and pay could be cut if not up to par (no adjustment for time of day, which hurt night-only employees.) Credit applications are THE WORST PART of this job. I not only ruined my own credit due to being a teenager with an AMEX but a few friends who I HAD TO SIGN UP! ughhh! this sales tactic is HORRIBLE! I was hired for clothing & shoe sales!

There was a lot of micro-managing being done by the Store manager, and tension between "HER" and the rest of the store could be cut with a knife. (She's was relieved of her duties & escorted out after a third of the store quit on her(me included) to a standing ovation from the employees)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

worth saying again: Credit applications are THE WORST PART of this job. I not only ruined my own credit due to being a teenager with an AMEX but a few friends who I HAD TO SIGN UP! ughhh! this credit sales tactic is HORRIBLE! I was hired for clothing & shoe sales! NOT CREDIT!!

I have been working at Dillard's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Educational sales environment, nice people. Pleasant working environment. Coworkers are more than willing to share the most effective techniques with newcomers. It's a great way to gain sales experience.

    Cons

Slow times hamper commission potential. Commissioned-based sales is not for those who lack a competitive spirit. People who are success-driven do the best.
