I have been working at Dillard's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Educational sales environment, nice people. Pleasant working environment. Coworkers are more than willing to share the most effective techniques with newcomers. It's a great way to gain sales experience.

    Cons

Slow times hamper commission potential. Commissioned-based sales is not for those who lack a competitive spirit. People who are success-driven do the best.

Great pay but no job security.

I have been working at Dillard's

    Pros

Good pay and employee discount, friendly co workers, monthly schedule, weekly pay.

    Cons

Sales goals are high. If you don't make your goals you run the risk of losing your job. You don't get your next month's schedule until the last few days of the current month, so don't make plans!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The high turnover rate of your employees and managers doesn't help your business. When sales associates are told to complete pages upon pages of markdowns within a short time period, They are not going to make their sales goals.

I have been working at Dillard's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Promotion - I feel that Dillard's is a place you can grow with the company if you are willing to work for it. I started a little over a year ago with little experience in retail. I became the top in my district and got some attention from management. I was quickly advanced to a manager role to a larger store.
Pay- if you work hard for the sales pay raises will come. If you don't have drive and determination then you'll fail. Focus on your goal and don't spend time small talking or listening the other associates about how things are not working for them. Remember you determine your how much you want to make. Work hard for it.

    Cons

Sometimes the management take awhile getting back with you on things. Health benefit could be better. I would be nice for the corporate leaders to speak to the sales team and no just the manager even if it a hello.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to encourage the sales team. I've seen good sales people come and go because they were made to feel less of what they were hire to do.

I really enjoy my sales position in women's lingerie. It's a very intimate, fun department and I work with a great team.

I have been working at Dillard's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

It offers good starting pay and the management team tries to encourage staff with frequent team meetings and special discounts. We get a schedule for the month ahead which is good. We get 1 week-end off a month and work 2 night shifts per week. It allows everyone a fair shake in sales.

    Cons

There are crazy quotas to meet that are sometimes impossible. If you don't meet the quota for the day, it gets added to the next day's quota. If you go over your quota on a certain day, it is NOT added to make your next day quota easier to achieve. There are long hours at times when they are short-handed in a department. There are no benefits unless full-time and it's very hard to get full-time status. Hours need to be constantly checked so you don't go over/under required hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since I ran my own company, I can advise that when you treat your employees with respect and dignity, you get rewarded triple-fold. Some company policies are a bit archaic.....such as employees not allowed to EVER come through the golden doors....but for the most part, satisfied with the management team.

I worked at Dillard's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of pros working for Dillard's. The people here are amazing, the pay is good (especially for retail), the employee discount is phenomenal (but can get dangerous), and pay was direct deposited weekly. Dillard's likes to promote from within so there are opportunities to advance if you want to.

    Cons

The turnover at Dillard's is high (both management and sales associates), and the sales quotas are unrealistic at times. I never stressed about my quotas because it would damage my customer service, but other associates would start stressing and start stealing sales or become pushy with customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sales aren't everything. You could look good on the sales performance dashboard, but it doesn't show how good of a worker you are. Associates have other responsibilities i.e. putting away freight. Some associates just focus on sales, making others have to pick up the slack.
