  1. This was overall a good job if you don't mind working nights and weekends. The pay is great!

    Pros

The pay isn't bad, I started out at 11.50 and ended at 12.60 after a little over a year. If you make your sales goals then you get a raise.

    Cons

Management can be pretty ridiculous. My manager was basically a child, choosing favorites to run errands for her and let the rules slide for.

  2. Helpful (1)

If you are motivated by selling and helping customers find what they want and need, it is a perfect place to work.

    Pros

They have a higher pay scale than any other retail store in our city. You have a good employee discount on purchases throughout the store and perks for getting credit apps. I think much of it depends on the individual asm and store manager. I just know I was very happy there and would go back, if I needed a job.

    Cons

Sometimes the competition between sales associates can be fierce. We are a team, but our individual sales are our own. It is difficult at times to maintain a good relationship with everyone when you are all competing for sales. There is no real security in your job because you are only valuable if your sales are good at that time. If your sales drop significantly, so will your value.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees more like you would your own family members. I saw many injustices done to various employees when working there. It is supposed to be a family oriented business, so treat the employees the same way.

    Pros

Pay is good, work with good ladies in my department. Work with my schedule. Good discount 25%

    Cons

Store manager needs to be little kind n speak to associates. Stop looking so mean. Said good morning one time and was ignored. Just rude. Some managers are very nice. Others act like they're all good and associate are nothing. Talk down on you. Need to be off at a Saturday or Sunday. No more yelling at staff at closing time over the intercom. Like we're some slaves. Where the professionalism?

    Advice to Management

Managers need more training on how to talk to associates. Be more professional.

    Pros

    - Great pay
    - opportunity to work in many different departments
    - 25% off merchandise
    - They'll work you plenty of hours
    - Customers come in to have a good time, so it's generally fun
    - Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and 6 pm Christmas Eve; associates who have been there longer receive paid time off for birthdays and Fourth of July

    Cons

    - Management was typically poor and scattered
    - Very little associate training
    - They don't respect students' scheduling needs. I worked 25+ hours most weeks and I had to fight to keep my time down to 20 hours and 4 days per week.
    - I got the feeling that management lied to associates about reasons why certain things weren't possible which certainly made me feel less team membership
    - Despite the high pay, they sometimes hire extremely unqualified people which can be trying to deal with
    - Associates can fall into the "sales per hour" trap, obsessively checking who is "stealing" their sales and this can be extremely stressful to put up with (though if you do go to work for Dillard's, be respectful to your coworkers and don't take credit for their work, it simply doesn't make up for the stress and tension it causes)

    Advice to Management

    - Hire more competent people
    - Train associates more genuinely and effectively
    - Respect part time employees desire to work less than 30 hours per week
    - Plan ahead better to avoid having to be constantly putting out fires when corporate comes for a visit
